george slides the last of his books into his bag, making sure he has everything that he'll need for the weekend.

he's startled by a hand on his shoulder and the brit turns back quickly, surprised to see karl standing behind him. he smiles at the brunette, pushing away his previously shocked look.

"hey," karl greets, smiling back just as sweetly.

"hi," george responds, looking down the hallway just in time to see tina making her way out of the school's main doors.

"how was your day?" karl asks casually, bringing george's attention back to him.

"it was okay," george answers with a dismissive shrug.

"just okay?" karl questions with a frown.

"i've got a bit of a stomach ache," he shrugs.

"have you eaten anything?" karl asks. george doesn't reply, instead just shifting awkwardly on the spot. karl nods understandingly, "it's okay," he assures, "try have something when you get home, even if it's small."

"i will," george promises, "i'm going to the pizzeria with my friends so i'll have something then."

karl smiles widely. "okay," he says, "i'm proud of you."

george feels himself blushing and turns back to his locker in an embarrassing attempt to hide it. he pulls his bag out of his locker, hanging it over his shoulder and taking a grounding breath before looking back at karl again. "is tina not taking you home?" he asks, partially because he's interested and partially to change the subject.

"she is," he corrects, "i just wanted to talk to you privately first."

george's brows pull together, a small frown tugging over his features as worry builds up in his stomach. "why?" he asks, "is everything okay?"

"yeah no, sorry," karl giggles, "it's nothing bad, don't worry, i was just uhm-" he trails off, shifting awkwardly.

"what's up?" george asks, smiling sweetly in the hopes that it will ease the other's obvious nerves.

"well i was talking to tina earlier, and she asked me what we are," karl starts.

"oh," george mumbles, nodding understandingly, "right."

"i just said i didn't know," karl says, ever so slightly biting at the inside of his bottom lip.

george doesn't say anything, not sure what he even could say. if he knew how karl was feeling, it would make it all so much easier. and sure they've kissed and cuddled and he's not stupid enough to think karl doesn't like him, that's pretty obvious. but he doesn't know how the brunette's feeling about moving their relationship onto something official.
