Rossiya Moretti Pov

"Get up."
"No."
"I said get up."
"Go to hell Ellis," I said and turned my head away from him. It had been about ten weeks since I had started training and it was more like everyone was venting out their frustrations on me than actually teaching me anything.
Okay that's a lie, I picked up a lot but it didn't change the fact that they had no consideration for how inexperienced I was.
For example, on the first day my own uncle had me beaten to near death, and that wasn't even the worst of it. Luc; sweet, playful and carefree Luc had actually snapped my neck. Twice. It was like they were taking turns and the twins just watched from the sidelines, laughing their asses off. Even Cerberus who had become my personal guard dog did nothing.

"Ross, stop whining and get up; what I'm doing isn't even close to what you'll have to face if your secret gets out. Stop being a child," I knew he was right, of course I did but that didn't mean I was any less irate.  So of course like the well behaved, straight A student I am; I did as I was told.

His body locked in place, but not of his own accord.

"You want me to train?"
Snap.
Ellis let out a scream hardly fitting for a man of his making and clutched his right arm.
"What's wrong, cat got your tongue?"
Another snap, another scream. This time it was his legs, so kid knees couldn't help but buckle underneath him.
"In the last three hours, you've fractured my ribs,"
Snap.
"Shattered my kneecap,"
Crack.
"broken my arms,"
Another snap.
"And-"
"Ross stop, you made your point," Luc voiced out. I looked at everyone who each had expressions ranging from pained to utter shock coating their faces. Cocking my head, I flashed him the most innocent smile I had, "wait your turn, I'll get to you later."

"Now, where were we?" I asked turning back to my current target. "Oh right, I was just about to snap your neck like you did mine," however that very moment I was hit with the unmistakable stench of death, my head jerked towards the forest.
I bolted.
There were shouts from the others and the sound of them running after me but I had a single minded purpose, to get to where the smell was coming from. My feet carried me faster and faster, barely touching the ground as everything around me turned into a blur. After running for what felt like forever I skidded to a stop. There were two of them, a werewolf male who was gravely wounded clutching on to a lamia female who was no longer breathing. His heart pounded in my ears, each one slower and more labored than the last until he too, stopped breathing.

Tendrils of white smoke danced around them, teasing. taunting. "What are you waiting for?" Her voice filtered through my ears almost as if she were right here, "save them." Something clicked into place, I knew what she meant. That sense of urgency, that single minded focus was all her.

"Afxisi."

The smoke around them danced vigorously before turning pitch black. It seeped back into them, closing the wounds and gashes, returning color to their skin. All throughout this process I felt myself connect to them on a level I never thought was possible, it was like they were becoming a part of me and I them. The lamia was the first to wake up, followed by the werewolf. Before I could even get a word out my body swayed and black crept from the corner of my eyes, plunging me back into sweet oblivion.

*
The sound of muffled voices brought me back to reality, "black soldiers is an unprecedented  phenomenon, sure there have been very few like her throughout history but none of them ever brought forth black soldiers." I kept my eyes closed, relishing the opportunity of rest. My interest was peaked however, what were black soldiers?

"She seems to be more powerful than we thought, do you still have no idea who her father is?" Luc said, I could feel his gaze on me and it made me feel some type of way.

"No, her mother never disclosed it to me or anyone, she just came back with a child in her arms after she had gone missing for years," this time it was Varda who spoke and I didn't miss the hint of pain in his voice.
I was so absorbed in their conversation that Cerberus running his slimy tongue across my face had me stick straight in a millisecond. He didn't stop there, oh no. The dog had the nerve to settle himself on my lap and take a nap. I couldn't help but laugh.

Someone cleared their throat, drawing my attention. I looked towards the sound and saw the two from earlier, a thin sheet of black smoke covered their bodies and their eyes were like never ending voids. So these were the infamous black soldiers, neat.

Without warning they both went down on one knee, "thank you for granting us a life by your side mistress, we promise to serve you as long as you allow us and protect you with our very lives if need be." I looked at the two then at the others then back to the two. "I'll accept your loyalty if you accept mine," I replied with a line I had read in a book once. Seemed like the most natural thing to be honest.
