Rossiya

I was giving Hypnos the antidote, when a familiar scent wafted through the air. Cinnamon and saffron, along with it came feelings of pain and joy in equal measures. I didn't need to look up to know it was him; if not for his unique scent, then the pull I felt or growing heat down south would've given it away. I hated myself for feeling this and for even having an ounce of joy that I was seeing him again because the fact still remained, he wanted nothing to do with me.

The longer he lingered, the more evident it became that he had different scents clinging to him like a second skin. It felt like a punch ti the gut but I managed to school my features before looking up. "Nice of you to drop by, can we help you?"

I hadn't noticed that no one had said a word before me and that they were all looking at me, as if I was some fragile doll that could break at any moment. Hades just stared at me, those midnight blue eyes were searching for something, then his gaze went to Hypnos who lay in my lap and I could've sworn a muscle in his jaw ticked. "Why yes, you can help us," Zeus whom I had just noticed was present stated the obvious. My skin crawled at the proximity as if warning me about him; for a moment I thanked my lucky stars that Anthony and Laurel weren't here and Aegaeon was still in the void. The last thing I needed was the likes of him knowing anything about me that wasn't basic information.

Ellis led Hypnos up to his room while the rest of us sat in the lounge. "Well since no one's taking the reigns I might as well just put it out there," Zeus said and turned to me, "Ross- can I call you Ross?" God was he always this annoying?

"Anyways, the council has called for you and Hades to officially tie the knot because not only has the state of the mortal world gotten progressively worse but the bindings that hold certain creatures in certain places are weakening and we can't have something worse than a hecantoncheiri escaping."

"So if you two could make my job easier and-"

"-Absolutely not."

Everyone's head including mine snapped in the direction of the voice. A man with brown hair and violet eyes like Ellis stood at the threshold along with about half a dozen people in hooded robes. I could feel the energy coming off him in terrifying waves.

"What makes you think you can claim the first princess of the fae kingdom without even breathing a word to our council your majesty?" The man asked, spitting out the word 'majesty' in a mocking way. I looked at Varda who had an expressed that was both pissed and relieved but mostly pissed. This man, should've been on the fae court which meant he could very well cause a lot of noise if he wanted.

"Melroe, what are you doing here?" Varda asked, "yeah Melroe what are you doing here?" Zeus repeated. The mystery man I now knew to be Melroe looked at the God king up and down and flashed a sweet smile, "are you still mad I cock blocked you Zeusy, maybe you should talk to someone about that."

Melodic laughter filled the room and squeezed around my heart, I looked at Hades who was laughing with tears in his eyes. So he was capable of emotions other than anger. After his fits of laughter, Hades' face went back to its natural set resting bitch face. It was actually unsettling how one could switch between two emotions that seamlessly. "Anyway, I am here because everyone at court agreed that I was the only person who could talk you into bringing the princess back to her rightful home, whatever happens after that will be discussed later." His eyes landed on me and thick brows knitted together before he bowed and greeted me.

"The underworld is falling apart and the mortals are caught in the crossfire yet the only thing that's important to you is if you take her back with you? For what? Another political marriage with the druids?"

"Last I checked, what happens to this world and the one below is of no importance to us, the princess will return to her homeland and you-" he stared pointedly at my uncle, "are going to quit dragging this out longer than it needs to be. She deserves to be surrounded by her own people and not thrown into a union with that manwhore."

"You're right, it wouldn't be of any importance to you if she was a pure blooded fae but your princsss has divinity in her, meaning she has the blood of a god and I'll be damned if I let you endanger my brother and people because you promised the druids a princess you couldn't deliver over three decades ago!"

Silence.
Bone chilling silence enveloped the room and the tension became suffocating. "What are you talking about?" Melroe and I broke the silence in unison.
"Is the princess not a pure blooded fae?"

"To hell with that, what do you mean a princess they couldn't deliver?" I seethed.

The god king laughed humorlessly, "why do you think they're so adamant on taking you back home princess? It's because they promised the Druid king a princess after a grand duke killed one of their own but she ran away for whatever reason and they've been engaged in on again off again wars with your people."

"That's probably the most obvious reason your dear old daddy has kept those vultures from you by keeping you on earth which is under my jurisdiction."

"As soon as you set foot on that world you will be married off."

"I'm so sorry Mel but your wars that could be ended by sending off one of your own daughters is not more important to me than my lands; Rossiya might be the first princess of your world but she is the child of a god, and I would hate to have to use my ruler's authority on her."

"What do you mean she isn't a pure blood Varda?" He asked, not even disputing what had just been said. "Who is her mother, of all the whores you could have you chose Olympian filth?"

As soon as he uttered those words, blood began to leak out of Melroe's eyes and ears. He choked and coughed up blood that looked like it burned him. "You seem to have forgotten yourself friend, I am the king and you are my servant. Go back to Qostaria and tell the court that the princess is already engaged to be married as per the breheimen and will not be setting foot there until after her ceremony."
