You groaned, waking up. Your head was pounding. You felt around your bed for the source of comfort you had felt all night but nothing was there. Sitting up quickly, you looked around before collapsing down in pain again.

"Tea?" Loki asked, handing you a steaming cup.

"Tea really is your answer to everything." You groan, sipping the hot beverage. Your head feeling a lot lighter now.  "Thank you."

He smiled, thoughts swirling around his head.

"So what did I do when I was drunk?" You asked teasingly.

Instead of answering, Loki looked more worried.

You quirked your brows, as you tried to remember what you had done. Only one moment came back to you. "I did not."

Loki let out a strained laugh. "You did."

"I am so sorry I put you through that. I can believe I threw up on you like that!" You said, hiding your face in embarrassment.

Loki visibly relaxed and you smiled. "Well, darling, I think we should take up my mother's offer on a midday meal."

"What offer?"

"Her offer of lunch? Darling, just how drunk were you?" Loki teased.

You were griping at your memories, trying to remember even the slightest hint of what on Asgard he was talking about.

All you remembered was dancing the night away before being dragged away and making a fool of yourself in front of Loki. You buried your face in the pillows, groaning.

"Love, we don't have to go if you don't want too."

"I do, I do!" You said quickly standing and dressing in a snap of your fingers. You truly wanted to make the absolute best first, or maybe second first, impression on his mother. Nervously pacing was the only thing you could do now.

"What's her favorite color? Food? Perhaps tea, Asguardians do love their tea. Maybe I can make some of hers? Yesterday doesn't leave the best impression, oh I hope I haven't screwed anything up!" You worry. Loki comes up behind you, wraps his hands around your waist, and leans in to whisper into your ear to:

"Calm down, darling. She already loves you. I know it."

You look at him, worry still filling your mind to the brim.

"How can you be so sure?"

"Because," He falters for a second before recovering. "Because everyone you meet loves you."

You smile a weak smile at him.

"So, everything will be ok?"

He smiles back at you after pressing a kiss to your forehead.

"Everything will be ok."

~~~
Everything was not ok. Not ok at all.
"For all the demons in Helheim, please grant me patience or a goddamn sword." You mutter under your breath as you approach the balcony you and Loki were to accompany his mother on.
"Hmmm, darling, I can't quite hear your please, speak up?"
You elbowed him in the stomach, making him double over the exact moment Frigga turned the corner to greet you two.
All you could do was smile and greet her. And to your relief, even though her son was doubled in pain right next to you, she smiled and greeted you back.
"Hello, my dear. Its a pleasure to meet you again. I would have never thought to see you back here again, let as hope the events from the past do not come back to haunt us."
You got her message, you would keep your mouth shut about the past.
"Thank you, my queen, but I assure you that I am not the same person as the girl who was banished. While my past lives surely have influenced my current personality, I am a different from who you now me."
She seemed to have gotten your message of, 'please stop referring to me as that person, as I'm not, and I will keep my mouth shut as I do not wish to revisit banishment either'. Ah, the love of the language of high society.
She nods to you in respect, as Loki finally joined you on the balcony.
"Hello mother." He said, leaning down to kiss her on her cheek. She smiles, embracing him as an ache fills your own chest thinking about your own mother.
"Now you take good care of Y/n, treat her right, do you understand? She's a special girl." She tells him.
"Yes mother." He replies cheekily, before sitting down at the table along with you.
"Have you visited our expansive library yet, Y/n? Our librarian, young as she is, around Loki's age too, Kyna, is very up-to-date with our collection. My son tells me about your research to end your reincarnation cycle." She said, holding up the book she was reading, your book, before handing it back to you.
You sent a hidden glare at Loki, who winced slightly as you kicked his shin under the table.
"Yes, I wish to end my cycle, as I do not know when I will be born next after I die, and the loss of loved ones is a hard burden to bear."
"The options in that particular read are....extreme and dangerous. If needed, I will help you if you go through with the option of soul-binding, but I do wish you'd find an alternative, for your own safety." You were taken aback by her kindness.
"Of course, that will be the most helpful, queen mother."
"Oh, you can drop the titles, my dear. It's just Frigga, or mom."
As you and Frigga settled into comfortable silence sipping your tea, Loki just grew more curious about your book. The one you always carried around. Perhaps some mischief was needed.
You took up Frigga's offer on visiting the library. You were also looking for another friend. You got along smoothly with Kyna, both of you sharing the same interests in books and childish humor.
However, when you were in the library, Loki was snooping in your belongings for that book. The one with the splendid phoenix on the cover.
He quickly took to reading the passages, scanning the pages, hovering over the passage with the information about the tether.
And that's how you found him when you reached your room, sitting on your bed, legs folded criss-cross, book in his lap. You smiled fondly just studying the scene of your best friend-turned boyfriend in complete concentration, a crease in between his angled eyebrows.
"I want to do it." Loki said, dragging you back to reality.
"Do what?" You asked quizzically.
"Be your tether. I'll do it."
