"I can't get it." You say in frustration, the gold glow emanating from your hands fading. "Maybe I'm not as good as I thought. I should have stuck to my plants. It's like the others said. I'm too young. I should wait a couple more years." You threw down your ring, as tears built up in your eyes.
"Nonsense, my dear. You're talented, you're my daughter, and you have a thousand years more of life experience than them." Your mother assured, standing behind you, sliding the ring back on your fingers, and guiding your hands through the motions for the simple portal spell. "Your frustration clouds your mind. Picture the location clearly in your mind. Sense the smell, feel the airflow, hear the sounds, and see the place in exquisite detail. Only then will you be able to complete this spell."
You closed your eyes, picturing the place you most wanted to go. A portal opened up in front of you. You screeched in excitement.
Your mother smiled, her finger resting on her lip, shushing you. "How are we supposed to steal food from the kitchen when your screams echo around Kamar-taj." She scolded playfully, grabbing your small hand and leading you through your first portal.
You beamed back up at her.

"Kaecilius, what are you doing?" You question, struggling to pull yourself up onto the chair next to him, your tiny legs and arms struggling to reach the top.
Kaecilius sighed, pulling you up onto the seat. You still had to stand on the chair to see what he was doing on the table. "Studying new material. You know, Little Shoot, you'll have to study this one day too."
"I'm not that little." You pout.
He laughed and patted your head. "What do you want, Little Shoot?" He asked teasingly.
"Denitta said that I'm nothing, and will be discarded when you start dating her. You won't date that bitch, will you? She says since you're young, handsome, and a prodigy, you two would make a great couple. She said she'll leech off of you and hopefully it will get her into my mother's good graces."
"You should watch your language, Little Shoot. You know the Ancient one and I can't be manipulated easily. And I won't date her. I already knew of her intentions."
"Then why did she say you kissed her? And that you're in the palm of her hand?"
"Did she really?" Kaecilius asked, eyebrows raised.
You vigorously nod your head.
"Hmm. I'll deal with it later."
"Ok! I have a gift for you! A good luck gift! Mother said you're going to have a trial test soon to become a sanctum master! Don't tell her I told you that." You say, hands clapping over your mouth.
He chuckled, then started to laugh. He held his belly as if in pain. You began to uncertainly giggle with him. "It's Sanctum Guardian. Your adorable, Little Shoot." He lifted you up and spun you around in happiness.
You started to laugh, shrieking, "Faster, faster!"
He put you down. "What's your gift, Y/n?"
You handed him a stick, with a vine hanging from it.
"Strongylodon Macrobotrys! It really looks like it glows from within! Where did you get it?"
"I found a vendor with a whole load of it." You said, opening your arms as wide as they could go. "This much! It was almost dead, I got it for a deal! Want to help me plant it?"
"I'd love to!" He said, picking you up again excitedly and conjuring a portal to your garden.
~~~
"How could you do this?" Your mother questioned. "She's only eight!"
