28: Night on the Town

With everyone's day taking an early start Izumi insists on fixing up breakfast, " I would've just woken up now." She mumbles, looking at the clock. The other members of the household were currently playing chess, (Y/n) and Alphonse opting to watch while Mr. Curtis and Edward played.

The game would end with no victor to speak of when Izumi calls over everyone for breakfast, " So what are your plans for the day?" Mr. Curtis asks the three of them, they all look at each other and shrug, " I dunno, maybe continue teaching each other." Edward says before putting his fork in his mouth.

What they were doing out so early became clear to Izumi, " So that's what you kids were doing, how were the lessons?" (Y/n) is the one to answer since Edward was still chewing and didn't want to get yelled at, " Went great until me and Eddie started petty fighting." Izumi raises her eyebrow and looks between the two of them.

" Did you at least learn anything useful?" (Y/n) nods and grabs a fork, an extra Izumi accidentally brought, and whispers a question in Edward's ear, he nods and (Y/n) claps her hands and makes a bird out of the fork. The table praises (Y/n)'s accomplishment and she examines the bird she made, holding it under the light trying to make sure she got the details right.

The bird wasn't the only thing shining under the light, (Y/n)'s ring also did and it caught Izumi's eye, " That is a very beautiful ring (Y/n), where did you get it?" The Elrics freeze and would have openly started panicking since if Izumi found out Edward did gold transmutation they might as well go buy their coffins now.

Keeping her cool (Y/n) sets down the bird and takes off her ring and looks at it, " Couldn't tell you if I wanted to, it's custom made." (Y/n) sweetly smiles, Edward looks at (Y/n) and holds in a soft smile of his own but his eyes showed what he forced his face not to. Izumi noticed the look Edward was giving (Y/n) and it took everything in her to not tease Edward about it.

" I see, was it a gift?"

" Yeah, my mom gave it to me for my birthday, see the rose etchings?
It's a nudge to my codename."

(Y/n) held the ring out so Izumi could see the rose etchings she was referring to, a smooth lair Izumi thought as she looked at the rose etchings, " She must love you a lot." Izumi says looking at Edward while biting back a smirk, (Y/n) smiles and puts the ring back on her right pointer finger, " Yeah, she does."

After putting her ring back on (Y/n) picked up the bird and was about to turn it back into a fork again before Izumi stops her, "Keep it, it's important to leave something to remember your lessons by." (Y/n) hums and traces the wings on the bird, " Then I think you should keep it." Izumi blinks and (Y/n) hands the bird to her.

Izumi pushes away (Y/n)'s hand shaking her head, " I couldn't." (Y/n) keeps trying to hand Izumi the bird, " You could, you can keep it safer than I can since I travel a lot it might get damaged. Besides next time we come back I'll see it again anyways." Her reasoning was completely logical and Izumi sighs, " You're a stubborn one aren't you?" (Y/n) innocently smiles and Izumi softly laughs, taking the bird.

Breakfast goes on with light chatter amongst the table. Afterward (Y/n) and Edward go continue teaching each other, this time with Izumi supervising making sure they don't fight, providing advice during the stone/metal alchemy sections, and listen attentively during the plant alchemy sections.

As for Alphonse, he went with Mr. Curtis to help out around the meat shop, one would think his appearance would drive away customers which is true, his appearance caught people's eyes but Alphonse used that as leverage to strike up a conversation with them, and with his sweet personality and great customer service the day was very successful.
