35: The Alleys of Central

While Edward and (Y/n) were reading they hear voices coming from the living room, they think nothing of it until the voices start to sound panicked and the two of their gut feelings have them go check out what was happening. In the living room, they see everyone crowded over a newspaper muttering things like, 'it can't be' or 'there's no way.'

" What's going on?" Edward asks, Alphonse perks up at his voice and runs over to (Y/n) and Edward, holding up the newspaper they were reading, " Look!" Edward grabs the newspaper and holds it between him and (Y/n), when they read it the two of them felt sick, " Lieutenant Ross? She wouldn't do that, would she?" Edward spoke to himself.

Winry walks over to them and looks at (Y/n) who's was face is completely blank, " (Y/n), what are you thinking right now?" Suddenly all the attention was on (Y/n). Edward, Alphonse, and Winry like to say they know (Y/n) very well but the one thing none of them knew was whether (Y/n) believed in vengeance.

To be honest (Y/n) didn't how where she drew the line, but there is one person she wouldn't put it past to kill, "Mustang must be livid right now." Edward stared at (Y/n) trying to get a read on her, " So what are you going to do?" (Y/n) sighed and saw at her mom who was looking at her, also wondering what her answer is.

Trying to think logically for the few times she had today she looks at Ross's picture, " There was no trial, no nothing. Call me biased but, I don't think Ross will do something like that." Her tone was leveled but she messed with her ring as she spoke, " I want to go to HQ and try to find out more." The Elrics nod but Winry and Gracia were a bit more worried.

" Are you sure (Y/n)? It's so late and are you sure you want the answers?" Winry questions, (Y/n) nods and puts her hands at her sides, " I'm sure." Gracia who was in the kitchen sighs, she always mentioned in a lighthearted way that her daughter couldn't sit still but now she was having second thoughts about it.

" Be safe okay?"

(Y/n) nods and looks at the Elrics, " Do you want to come?" Edward and Alphonse rest a hand on of each her shoulders, " 100% we're in this together." Edward spoke, Alphonse nodding along with him, " He's right, we're with you every step of the way." (Y/n) fights the bashful smile on her face and nods, " Let's go then." With that, the three of them say their goodbyes and rush out the door.

They run down the streets of Central and all of them were quiet until they come across Barry and the woman of the hour, "Lieutenant Ross!" (Y/n) yelled, Ross looked at (Y/n) and she knew that (Y/n) had read the newspaper, " (Y/n)! I swear I didn't-" Ross gets cut off by Alphonse suddenly recognizing Barry.

" It's you from the lab!"

"It's you from the lab!"

" You two know each other?"

The question from everyone other than Barry and Alphonse wouldn't be answered when Ling makes his presence known, "Hello! What are you doing here?" Edward aggressively points at Ling, " We should be the ones saying that!" Barry this time, literally, cuts off the conversation by swinging his knife at Edward, " Get out of the way!"

Edward jumps back and Alphonse stops him from tripping backward, " Lieutenant Ross! Can you please explain what's happening?!" He calls, Barry doesn't let Ross speak and gives her specific directions.

" Listen missy! Run straight to the warehouse and run down the alley! Hide in the dark, you'll be killed if any soldiers find you!"

Glancing back at (Y/n), Ross sends her a silent apology and runs off. The three of them call out to her but Barry manically swings his knife around, " Stay back! No kiddies beyond this point!" (Y/n) folds her arms, " Explaining your plan in front of the people you're running away from, now that's just tactless." Barry realizes his shortcoming and tries to save his ego.
