43: A Toast to Our Childish Dreams

Walking out of the station a car pulls up next to them, " What are you doing here Colonel?" Alphonse asks, Mustang unlocks the car doors and points to the backseats, quickly glancing at Edward's bandage," I heard you were staying at a hotel now. There's tons of guards surrounding the hotel, if you went back they wouldn't let you leave." The three of them nod and stuff themselves in the car.

Alphonse and (Y/n) claimed the backseats while Edward sat in the passenger, "So what happened to that homunculus?" Edward asks, his arms folded, " They put the homunculus in an abandoned shack, we're heading there right now. Check if anyone's tailing us."

Edward looks out the rearview mirror and there was nothing out of the ordinary, " All clear." Mustang nods and starts up the car.

" Hey Mustang, should you even be driving?" (Y/n) asks while poking his shoulder, Mustang doesn't react and hears Alphonse hum in agreement, "Yeah, what about your injury?" Mustang's eyelids droop as he responds, "We don't have enough operative personnel, so there isn't much of a choice." The two in the back oh and sit in their seats.

In the passenger seat, Edward turns to look at Mustang, "Really? Damn, you're really not popular." Mustang smiles tensely and grips the steering wheel tighter, "Say Fullmetal, I need to pick someone up and they are going to have to right there." Mustang looks away from the road to smugly grin at Edward, " So you might want to make yourself happy in the trunk."

Giggles from the backseat made Edward rolls his eyes and he harshly turns Mustang's head back to the road, " Whatever! Eyes on the road!" Mustang stifles a chuckle and focuses back on driving, "Who are we picking up?'' (Y/n) asks, Mustang looks at her through the rearview mirror, " An accomplice." (Y/n) hums, " So your friend?" Mustang thinks before nodding.

" I guess those are interchangeable sometimes, especially with me."

They make it to the shack and Edward grumpily stretches out his joints, "I can't believe those assholes really put me in the trunk." He mutters, apparently (Y/n) and Alphonse overheard him as he heard them laugh, " Oh shut up!" Edward yells, looking at the front of the car. The two raise their hands in surrender and walk up to Edward.

"Alright, calm down we're sorry." (Y/n) apologizes, Alphonse saying a similar one after, "Yeah, yeah, you guys regret nothing. Let's just get inside." Edward turns around and walks to the shack, deadpanning at the stifled laughter coming behind him.

Inside the shack Hawkeye debriefs them on what happened, " We also found Milo in the sewers with her, so he's also with us." Mustang blinks, "How did he get there?" Hawkeye puts her hands behind her, " No idea sir, he's currently with Lan Fan at the moment." Dr. Knox scratches his beard and glances around the shack, " Where is the girl anyways?"

Hawkeye gestures down the hallway where a tiny light let up the end of the hall, " Down there, her wounds have been properly disinfected." Dr. Knox nods and starts making his way down, the rest of the group following him.

As they trekked down the hallway (Y/n) thinks about the promise she made to Mr. Walter.

They reach the room and Lan Fan was laying on a bed with a towel over her eyes, Milo and Ling on either side of her, " Sorry kids but I need to kick you out, go wait in the hallway." Dr. Knox informs, the boys were reluctant to leave but Milo walks over to the side Ling was on and rested a hand on his shoulder, "It'll be okay, let's go." Ling looked at Milo and sighed.

" He's right master, please, don't worry about me." Lan Fan shakily spoke. Ling turned back to Lan Fan, she was biting her lip to hold back the pain, "Okay." Ling told her, leaving the room with Milo. (Y/n), Alphonse, and Edward were the next to be booted and joined Ling and Milo who were sitting next to each other in the hallway.
