"Guys, bogey, two o'clock," I watch as a boat was heading right to us.
"What?" JJ groans.
"Do you recognize that boat?" Pope asks the group.
"I've never seen it," Kiara replies. "What are they doing here? The marsh is closed."
"I don't know, but let's not stick around to find out," JJ answers.
They prepare to head off while I watch the boat. While JJ was still pulling up the anchor we started moving. They were becoming dangerously close. "I don't like the look of this." John B mutters.
"Maybe they're fishing," Pope suggests. We take a turn into the marsh, I was still watching the two people on the other boat.
"Guys, they're coming after us, fast," I yell.
"Oh, this can't be good." Pope groans.
"Shit." John B grits his teeth.
"Dude, you gotta go faster!" JJ yells.
"I'm going!" He yells back.
"Gun it!"
"Gun!" I yell. The guy just pulled out a gun. Right after I say that a shot is fired.
"What the" Pope yells.
"Holy shit." Kiara gasps.
"John B get down!" I pull him down by his shoulder. Another shot was fired at us.
"Oh, my God...." I shake.
"We're gonna die," Pope panics.
"Don't fucking say that." JJ groans. They shoot another shot.
"Shit. Shit. Shit." I groan. That's when I see the fishing net. "Pope, move." I quickly stand up, and he crawls out of my way. I hope this works.
"Lydia what the fuck are you doing! Duck!" JJ yells. He tries to reach for me but I move out of the way before he can. I grab the net and head to the back of the boat. I splay the net out right behind us. It splashes into the water, I duck again but I hear their engine clanking as they hit the net.
Once they're out of sight we celebrate. "Oh, my God. Whooh!" JJ yells. I laugh slightly, out of breath.
"That was insane." I sigh.
Once we make it back to the dock, Pope ties the boat and we run up under the roof of the dock to see what John B found.
"What do you guys think it is?" Kiara asks.
"Gotta be money, right?" John B replies.
"That, or a couple of keys with street value to the low- to mid-mils!" JJ laughs.
"Can we please just open the bag!" Pope says, way too excited.
"Wow, Pope." John B laughs. "That's a rare outburst of emotion."
"Okay, you guys are literally killing me with anticipation." He defends. "Open the bag."
John B finally opens the bag. In the bag is another bag, with a flask-type thing inside it. John B quickly unscrews it. Inside is one thing, a compass. We all look around at each other confused.
"Oh wow. Yup. That's about right. Good job everybody, we found a compass." Pope whines. There's got to be something more to this.
"No, no, no, it's gotta mean something. John B, do you know what this is?" I ask. He was still staring at the compass, making me feel like he recognized it. I was right, of course.
"This was my father's." John B smiles. Bingo. Bullzye. Right on the money.
