We were back in the Twinkie, headed to the warehouse. "So... they keep money out here?" I question, still feeling fishy about the situation. Why didn't this lady come with us? Why was it in the complete middl eof nowhere? And why the fuck did we decide to go in the first place? Too many questions with 0 answers.
"That's what she said." JJ shrugs, he was holding the gold flat in his palm, tossing it back and forth in his hands.
I snort, "That's what she said." JJ laughs with me, us having the same sense of humor is one thing that makes life easier. Any other kids I've been around have never understood my sarcasm, except JJ.
"Stop," Pope demands, and our smiles disappear. Pope is a very prime example of a kid who doesn;t underatand. But then again, it's Pope so what did I expect?
"I've never even heard of Resurrection Drive." Sarah points out, from the passenger seat.
"It's cause your rich," JJ concludes. This makes most of us roll our eyes.
"You've never heard of it either," I tell JJ, slapping him on the arm, making him hit me back. I stick my tongue out and he takes that as an invitation to tug my hair. Pope glares at us, and it kind of scared me, so I kept my hands to myself.
"Thank you." Sarah smiles back at me. I love defending the girls, esspecially when it's against JJ and his stupity.
"There's nothing but weeds back here." I look out the window, and I was right. There was literally nothing. Warehouse. Middle of nowhere. We can't call the police if we're in trouble, thanks to the gold. Isn't this family freiendly?
"All right, just because it just weeds doesn't mean it's like..." JJ's voice trails off. Yeah, I don't think even he knew where he was goin with that.
Suddenly we hear sirens. Even if JJ had a finishing thought, it was out the window now. "Cops? Out here?" Kiara mutters as we all turn to look at the car behind us. You've got to be shitting me.
"God!" JJ groans. "Are you kidding me?" He throws his hands up. Yeah, he's about to blow, which will definetley not help any situation.
"What did we do?" Sarah calls out, watching the car. That's the thing, we didn't do nothing.
"Why are we getting pulled over?" Pope questions as the Twinkie comes to a stop. No one could answer, and then I remember the gold.
"Stash that," I tell JJ, gesturing to the gold. He does as I say, thankfully. He still looks very mad and stressed, which is not the JJ we need right now. It's not the JJ I need right now.
"Chill, guys," Kiara tells us. Yeah, there was no chance of any chilling. JJ was gone. I was getting close to blowing up.
"I hate cops," JJ states, bounching his leg as we wait for the cop to come up to the car. I fidget with my fingers nervously. My brain starts to go through the possiblities of why we could've been pulled over when I remember something.
I gasp and turn to look at JJ. "Did you bring the gun?" He shakes his head and i sigh in complete relief.
"No, okay? Everyone told me to leave it back at the place." JJ complains.
"Thank God." I sigh. "Please, check everything else in your bag. How much weed do you have on you, bro?" He quickly puts his bag in the compartment under his seat. We hear footsteps. John B turns, to look at the officer and gets faced with a gun, cocked.
The man has a mask on, long brown hair tied back, and a widow's peak. He has brown eyes and a greyish-blackish shirt. His mask has a skull on it. "Why don't I go ahead and see them hands up in the air?" He mutters to John B, whose mouth is agape. We all look at each other in fear. "All of y'all's hands up in the air, right now!" He demands. "Out of the car, let's go," he growls.
John B slowly opens the door, his casted hand still held up. "Hurry!" The man demands again."Let them out!" He screams once John B is fully out of the Twinkie. This wasn't a cop, no, not at all.
"Shit. Shit. Shit." I shake. I fucking hate guns. I know the second that little shit gets pointed at me I might crumble.
"What are you waiting on!" He yells at John B. "Let them out. All of y'all." John B opens the van sliding door, Sarah, out first. "There you go, pretty girl. Get out of the car, let's go! Hurry up!" Kiara then Pope then JJ, and me following close behind him.
"We're broke-" JJ tries to tell him.
"Shut the hell up! Let hot stuff get out of the car." He growls and gestures to me. I stiffen up as move to get out. Because of his words, or the gun, I'm not sure, probably both.
"All right! Just relax!" JJ yells as I get out of the Twinkie.
"Shut the hell up!" He points the gun at me. "Or I'll blow, hottie here damn head off!" He points the gun at me, making me tremble. "Lay down in the ditch!" JJ touches my lower back and ushers me behind him, between him and Pope. "On your goddamn hands and knees now! Stop trying to protect your fucking girlfriend! Just because she's behind you now, doesn't mean I won't blow off her pretty head. Now, put your faces on the ground!" We quickly do what he says. "Just stay here, just like that!"
"It's a setup." I tremble. I could barely process the words, let alone get them out of my mouth.
"That old bat shanked us." JJ growls. "Fuck. Godamn." JJ punches the ground, getting dirt in my eye. John B slowly gets out of his position.
I hear Sarah whimper. "Wait, no no no. John B. No..." I could picture the tears in her eyes.
"John B," Pope whispers. "Don't be a hero, man." He shakes his head as John B stands up. John B quietly walks up to the man's car, and into the back seat.
The man gets out of the Twinkie, the gold in hand. "All right, y'all stay like that. Unless you want your brains blown up all over this road, don't move your goddamn heads, okay!" I don't know how he didn't notice John B was gone.
He runs back into his car, and we then hear him struggling. JJ starts to get up as John B and the man, take their fight out of the car. JJ runs at the man but gets punched in the face. So I try to trip him but he shoves me to the floor, luckily that gave John B time to get behind him and shove the gun into his back, and he falls right at my feet. He tries to hold onto my foot and climb up me, I don't even know. I shriek and grab the car door and slam it into him, multiple times. Kiara and pope kick him as well until he's off of me.
"You son of a bitch." I yell as I stand back up straight. JJ rips off his mask as he's leaning against his car door, panting.
"I know this piece of shit," he growls. "He's a basehead."
"Probably knows my brother." Sarah sighs, brushing her hair out of her face.
"He sells coke to my dad." JJ grunts.
"All right, listen. I couldn't hurt any single one of y'all-" JJ slams the gun into his face. I could imagine the anger coming from how much coke changes his dad. He's probably taking his anger out on the drug dealer, blaming his dad's addiction on him.
"JJ!" I cry out.
"Dude, chill, man." Pope pats him on the shoulder. As the man is wheezing JJ takes his wallet out of his pocket.
"We got one last stop," JJ mutters as he stares at the man's license plate. "Let's go see where this son of a bitch lives." And JJ takes off for the car.
"I'm gonna remember this shit!" The guy calls out. "You can't hide from me. I know exactly who y'all are." I find his car keys on the ground and throw them far into the forest.
