8. Shadowflux

I open my eyes and see my lit room. I notice I'm still holding Keefe's hand and smile softly.

I let go and stand up.

I wake everyone up.

"We need to get ready before going to the meeting." Biana says.
"I call dibs on showering first." Keefe yells.
"There's like 6 different showers here." I say.
"Okay, I want to shower here."
"No. Now everyone go shower."

Keefe gets up to run to my bathroom. I use telekinesis to close the door.
"Go find another shower." I say. He sighs.

I roll my eyes at his dramatics and go shower.

Once we're all ready we lightleap to the meeting.

The organization is all standing there waiting for us.

"The neverseen have left tracks in the woods. You need to get down there as soon as possible." Mr Forkle says. I find it odd that he wants us to go.

I watch everyone start putting weapons in their pockets. I just put some in the void.

Once we're ready we all walk out and hold hands.
"I'll teleport us." Sophie says mostly to me to avoid us both doing it. I nod.

We start levitating. Then she drops us. The purple void sucks us in then we're over the woods.

She sets us down.

"So what exactly are we looking for?" Linh asks.
"I think it's one of those things you just know when you see it." I say.

We start walking around.
"Let's split up, we'll cover more ground if we do." Fitz says.
"Yeah. Groups of two?" Dex suggests.

I feel a presence. We're being watched.
"No." I say making my dagger appear. "Someone's here."

In an instant we're all covered by shields. I look around trying to find a way out.

A group of people in cloaks appear. The neverseen.

I focus on the shield and try to make it disappear. It starts too but then just reappears.
"I wouldn't try that if I was you." The voice of a guy says.

"What do you want?" Sophie asks.
"Just here to be assholes?" Keefe asks.

"No, we want to talk to you." The leader of the small group says looking at me.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"Won't say." She says laughing. I narrow my eyes slightly.

I look to my right and see Tam using shadow work to undo his shield. It gets remade instantly.

"What do you want?" I ask turning to the woman.
"To talk."
"Why don't we talk over some coffee, or like anywhere where I'm not being held against my will?" I ask.
"Who are you?" She asks.
"Won't say." I mock.

"You're making this difficult, Blair."
"Why'd you ask if you know her name?" Keefe asks.
"We know your name but we want to know more."
"What? You wanna know my middle name?" I ask. She sighs.
"Let's not make this any harder." She says.
"Well, you're speaking in code." I say.

"What are you?" She asks.
"What do you mean?" I ask playing dumb.
"Blair." She says.
"See, now I'd say your name, but I don't know that."
"Stop playing games." She says.

"The fuck you mean stop playing games?" I ask. "You're practically holding us hostage and expect me to just answer your questions." I add.
"Blair." Dex pleads.

I feel a darkness pierce my skin. I scream.

"Umber stop!" Keefe yells.

"You wanna talk now?" She asks.
"You crazy bitch." I mutter. I see the dark shadow come to me and I can't stop it. I can feel my bones breaking. I scream and fall.

"Blair!" I hear someone yell.
"What are you?" She asks again.
"Go fuck yourself." I mutter.
"I'm giving you three seconds to respond before I hurt Keefe." She says. I look over at Keefe.
"Don't answer." He says.

Shadows hit him and he yells falling.
"Stop!" I yell.
"What are you?"
"B, no." Keefe says shaking his head. She goes to hit him again.

"I'm an elf and god hybrid!" I yell. She stops and looks at me as I manage to stand back up.
"What?"
"My dads Zeus. My mom's an elf."
"What abilities do you have?" She asks.

"Don't say anything." Sophie says to me.
"Come on, that's a little personal. We just met, how about some coffee?" I ask. She hits me again. I yell as my knees give out.

"Answer."
"No."

I hear Keefe yelling.
"Stop it! Leave him alone!" I yell. She shoots some at me too.

It feels like my insides are literally dissolving. It feels like I'm going to die.

Keefe's screaming. Everyone else is yelling for her to stop.

I dig deep for any energy and push it all out. I don't care what happens but it has to do something.

She stops and I look up realizing the shields are gone. The neverseen disappear.

I look over at Keefe who's laying on the floor.
"Keefe-." I mutter trying to stand but everything goes black.

My eyes flicker open. Everything hurts. I try to sit up.
"Hey, hey." Elwin says stopping me.
"Where's Keefe? Is he okay?" I ask.
"Yes, he's fine. He's sleeping right now. He woke up about an hour ago." He says. I nod but wince.

"Whats going on?" I ask.
"You got hit with shadowflux. It dissolved your ribs." He says casually.
"What?" I ask.
"It's okay, I fixed that. But uh you did something I've never seen before."
"What's that?"
"You somehow have contained the shadowflux in a strange shadow shield around your heart. If you didn't it would've killed you." He says.

"How the hell did I do that?"
"I have no idea. But luckily you did." I sigh but it hurts.

"Here's some elixirs you'll have to take. Take one everytime the timer beeps." He says. I nod. "I'll be back tomorrow morning but if anything happens just get me."
"Okay, thank you."

He walks out and I lay back down.

The timer starts beeping and I manage to sit up.
"Fucking timer." I hear Keefe mutter.
"Keefe?" I say. He looks over and smiles.

"Hey, how are you feeling?" He asks.
"Never better." I say.

"What happened to you?" I ask.
"Broken arm. But it's alright, I have a cast." He says lifting it. I smile.
"Move closer." I say.
"I'm not to leave the bed. Docs orders or something." Keefe says.

I roll my eyes and focus on the bed pulling it close with my mind.

"A little warning would've been nice." Keefe says now that our beds are connected.
"Sorry."

We both grab a vial.
"Cheers." I say before downing it. I almost throw up. Keefe laughs making me laugh.

"So am I signing this thing or what?" I ask.
"Thought you'd never ask."

I grab a pen from the void.
"Give me your arm." I say. He does. I write "BLAIR" really big.
"Looks perfect." He says. "Just that now there's no space for anyone else."

"There's plenty of space." I say.
"Yeah, but I'm pretty popular."
"You'll be popular once people see my name."
"You wish." We laugh.

It hurts but the pain is almost worth it to know he's okay.
