6. First Day at Foxfire

Maddy and I have been staying at Sophie's house. I go to school tomorrow and to be honest, I'm scared.

In the morning Sophie and I lightleap to Foxfire. The school is huge.

Keefe and Fitz show up next to us.
"Ready, B?" Keefe asks.
"Are we sure this is a school?" I ask. Sophie laughs
"That's exactly what I thought."

"Come on." Fitz says. I sigh before following.

We walk inside and I swear I'm gonna be lost.

"Blair." Bronte says standing by a door.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Come on in, we'll explain things to you." He says. I look at Sophie scared.
"You'll be fine." She says.
"Sophie, let's go." Fitz says.
"I'll see later." She says. I nod.

I walk in.

Some of the counsellors and a man I don't recognize are in there.
"Take a seat Miss Cain." The man says. I do.

I look over and see Kalo standing by the door. That makes me feel a little safer.

"I'm Magnate Leto. The principal." He says. I nod.
"Hi."
"I've been informed of your situation and believe you should be taking some Elite classes. As well as level 5 as your friends are." He says. I just nod pretending to understand.
"Here's your uniform." A female counsellor says handing me a neat pile of red clothes.

"You'll need a family crest." Magnate Leto says. "And we understand you're not adopted yet so we have decided to do this." He says handing me a family crest. It's got a moon surrounded with lightning bolts.
"It's quite fitting." I say looking up. He smiles.
"I'm glad you agree."

"You have 13 abilities and well there's no possible way to fit that into your weekly schedule, so you'll have two per week. They'll switch weekly, and when you master them all you can choose which two to practice." I sigh. This is too much work.

He goes on to explain where to go and what I'm supposed to do.

"Goodluck." He says before I walk out.

"Took you long enough." Keefe says pulling away from the wall.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
"Waiting."
"Why? You're late for your first class." I say.
"And I'll be even later if you dont hurry up and go change."

I sigh.

"Where's the bathroom?"
"Over here."

He leads me to the bathroom and waits while I go inside. I change into a red plaid skirt and a matching red button up shirt. I put on the cape and pin it with the crest pin.

I walk out and Keefe looks at me carefully.
"Red's your color." He smiles. I roll my eyes.
"Okay, now where do I go?" I ask showing him my schedule.

"Well since it's Tuesday we both go to gym. And look at that, we have the same teacher." He says grabbing my arm and starting to walk.

We walk inside and every head turns to us.
"Mr. Sencen." The oldest guy says.
"Sir. Harding." Keefe says.
"You've brought a guest, I see."
"Yup."

"I'm Blair." I say. "I'm new."
"Blair Cain." He mutters.
"Yeah."

"Welcome to physical education. You'll learn all kinds of skills here. Since you and Keefe are late you two pair up." He says. I nod.

Keefe grabs a weird ball thing and stands a couple feet away from me.

"Ready?" He asks.
"For?"
"I'm gonna use telekinesis to pass it to you."
"Oh." He smiles.
"I'll go easy on you, B."

The thing comes flying to me. I focus on it and make it move to Keefe.
"See, you got it!" He says. I smile.

We speed it up a bit and I can see Sir Harding looking over at us as if expecting us to explode.

"Boys!" He yells. I glance over stopping the ball to see. He's yelling at some guys for messing around with it.

"What's the ball thing?" I ask Keefe.
"Some fancy glass." He says. "I've broken about 5." He says. I smile and shake my head passing it to him.

"Blair!" Keefe yells. Before I can respond I feel something hit my side, and hard.

Immediately my arm starts stinging and burning. I look down and see my arm bleeding. Glass scattered around.

"Are you trying to kill someone?" Keefe yells to the guys. Sir Harding walks over to discipline them.

"You okay?" Keefe asks walking over to me.
"Shit, it hurts." I mutter holding my arm.
"Come on." He says grabbing my good arm.

I follow him out. He doesn't let go of me until we walk into a room.
"Elwin!" Keefe yells.
"Keefe its the first day." A voice says. A man walks out from behind a door.

"Who's this?"
"I'm Blair."
"Her name's irrelevant right now. She's bleeding." Keefe says.
"Take a seat." I do.

He walks over and I move my cloak to show my arm.

He starts fixing it up while we talk.

"All done, now just keep it bandaged and if you have any problems let me know." He says. I nod.
"Thank you."

Keefe and I walk out to lunch.

We find the rest of the group and walk with them.

"Elwin day one, starting off strong." Dex says. I laugh.
"Suppose you could say that."

We walk in and heads turn to us. I feel the emotions shift to curiosity.

I want to the ground to open up and swallow me whole.

We sit down. I can feel people looking over and I'm fighting the urge to probe their minds to know what they're thinking.

"B, you good?" Keefe asks gently elbowing me.
"Yeah." I say.

"Well, you have telepathy with us after this." Sophie says.
"How exciting." I say dryly. She gives me a half smile.

Lunch ends and we walk out.

"Meet after class?" Dex asks us and we all agree.

Fitz goes to his locker and Sophie and I walk to class.

Sir Tiergan looks at us carefully.
"Pleasure to have you here." He says to me. I smile.
"Thanks."
"I hope you find your true potential here."
"Agreed."

Fitz arrives and he has us start. Sophie and Fitz are partners so Tiergan starts off with me.

"It seems that your mind it just as hard to enter, as Sophie's." He says. I don't know what that means but I pretend I do.

The class goes on and it's a lot of me just entering his mind and impelling images.

Class ends and I walk to my locker.

"You're supposed to lick it." Kalo says while I stare at the strip.
"I don't want to." I say.
"Leto said it'd taste like something new everyday."
"Why were you paying so much attention?" I ask laughing.
"Someone had to." I roll my eyes and lick the strip. It tastes sweet.

I open the locker and put my book inside.

"Blair Cain right?" Some guy asks.
"Yes." I say. He's tall with light brown short hair. His eyes are deep blue. I notice Kalo staring at us. I glare at Kalo to step away. He does.

"I heard you got crazy abilities." He says.
"Uh yeah." I say closing my locker.
"Like what?" He asks. "Any that could benefit me?" He asks leaning over and blocking my way out.

"Excuse me." I say trying to get by. He puts his hand out stopping me. "Move." I say now serious. He doesn't. "Fuck off!" I yell pushing him. He stumbles back.

"Come on big guy." Keefe says grabbing his shoulder. I step away and stand by Keefe.

"I was just talking." The guy says.
"Yeah, is that why she pushed you away, Wayne?" Keefe asks. I grab Keefes arm wanting to leave.

"Would love to sit and chitchat but we have places to be." Keefe says grabbing my arm to get us moving.
"Thank you." I whisper.
"No problemo." He says.

Kalo and Ro walk over.
"Some bodyguard you have." Ro says.
"She wanted me to leave!" Kalo yells.
"No, I wanted you to not hover over me." I say.
"Whatever." He says.
