"I can't even look at you right now, what kind of mystery meat even is that?" Josie says, looking at MG in disgust.
"That would be Spam" I say, quickly looking away from my book and looking down at MG's plate of lunch that Mystic High graciously served today. Josie and MG look at me, confused.
"Come on" I say and place my book on the table, in shock, "I mean, I know you both went to a preppy school, but I didn't know they left you so isolated that you don't know about the American delight of canned mystery meat" I state.
"Whatever it takes to fit in on my first day" MG says hopefully, as he struggles to choke down the Spam.
I guess when I was ending things with Hope... MG was ending things with Lizzie. When the whole Hope semi-kidnapping Josie fiasco happened a while back, Lizzie betrayed MG's trust. They were supposed to run off with the ascendant and hide it, but once Lizzie caught ears that Hope had Jo, she siphoned MG and came to us. MG's had enough after that, and he decided that the Salvatore School was no longer for him.
"Good luck" Josie says bluntly "Mystic Falls is cliquier than the Salvatore School" She says to MG
While I want to deny this, I unfortunately have to agree.
"Over there," I say pointing to a table to the far left of us, "is where the jocks sit with their mean cheerleaders" I explain to MG.
MG looks over at the table, and a blond cheerleader locks eyes with him and smiles.
"She doesn't look so mean to me" He smirks.
"Please" I say sarcastically. Tori Thompson is the mega bitch of the squad.
"The LARPers and comic geeks sit over there" Josie continues, pointing to the table to the right of us
"That tables probably more your speed, MG" I say to him.
"Well, maybe at my last school, but here, we can be as cool as we want to be" MG says optimistically, gesturing to Jo and him.
"How cool is that, exactly?" Josie questions
"I can see myself trying out for the football team..." MG fantasizes, then he all of a sudden zones out for a moment. "Because Tori Thompson is totally into me" He says, feeling achieved. Vampire hearing... "Yea, she just told her friend" He smiles.
"Knock it off, MG. No vamp powers" I say seriously. The last thing I need here is for the Salvatore Schools secret to be exposed.
"Relax, they don't even know" He says defensively
"Yea, and we need to keep it that way or my dad is going to yank us out of the school so fast our heads are gonna spin off" Josie says in agreement with me.
"He's probably lurking in the parking lot right now" I raise my eyebrows
"Okay, you both are being paranoid" MG laughs slightly
"Please, just try being human with me" Josie begs MG
"Okay, fine. No powers" MG says reluctantly.
"But if this place is so important to you both, why are we sitting here... alone?" He questions.
I look at Jo, expecting her to respond, because honestly, I'm not really sure what to say. Sure, I know people here, but Maya was really my only true friend. The rest are more like the ones who you smile at quickly while you pass them in the hallway-type friends.
"Mind if I join you guys?"
I hear a voice say. I turn to look to my left and see Ethan.
"Looks like there is plenty of room" He says gently.
