Chapter 16,
Thanks For Having My Back
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~" I am not as dumb as you think I am, just because I understand things slower than you do doesn't make me any less smarter than you. "
~ Deb's POV ~
There's nothing that irritates me more than girls who act as if they're better than everyone, it makes me wish I stood in bed and skipped class, like why do you find it entertaining to piss the whole class off? Maggie Snodgrass is one of those people, and besides her lame ass last name, she acts is if she's too cool to even shut the hell up.
It was during English class, I was trying to finish up my essay that was due tomorrow when she decided to sit next to me, I like sitting alone because I can listen to music and focus on my assignments. As long as we don't distract each other, I don't care if someone sits besides me, the seat doesn't belong to me anyways.
Now, you would have thought Maggie would be taking this class time seriously and do her own essay but nope, she decided it would be best to start picking at me. She kept glancing over at my assignment before making a snarky comment on how she doesn't need grammarly to make her essay amazing. Like, shut the fuck up already, nobody asked.
I was waiting for Ophelia to arrive to class considering she was never late to class, when the unthinkable happened.
Maggie was sipping on her chai latte as if she was a rich, snobby aunt coming to visit her sister when she spilled some on the table. I had to lift my papers up before they touched the drink.
"What the fuck Maggie!"
I shrieked as I got up from the chair and moved my items away, she only found it hilarious.
"Chill, it was an accident, I'll go get some napkins."
Maggie spoke as she got up from her chair, I looked at her and bit my tongue. I knew that whatever I wanted to say would be real nasty, and I didn't need to get into any trouble.
When the snobby girl walked out of the classroom to go find some napkins, I grabbed my stuff and walked to the other side of the class. Ophelia finally made her way into the classroom, giving the teacher a note before walking over to me.
"I can't stand Maggie, why is she even in this class, I thought she wanted to take something harder?"
I questioned as Ophelia took her laptop out from her book bag and turned it on, she shrugged her shoulders before giving me a side hug. I was completely over with being treated like garbage when it came to people thinking they're smarter than the average mind.
When Maggie walked in, I could already feel my blood boil. I wish she got kicked out of this class, or better yet, this college. Nobody can stand her, not even the teachers, and rumors have it that her family doesn't even like her.
"Why'd you move seats? I said I'd clean it up."
Maggie asked as she walked over here, her ponytail swung side to side as she stood in front of my table. I could only roll my eyes, as she had me tired.
"You could have ruined my essay, i need it to pass this class but you hardly give a damn about anyone in your surroundings. So it's no surprise that I moved my seat."
I spat, Ophelia had her earbuds in but she lowered her music, just in case she needed to jump into the conversation to calm it down or back me up.
"Oh please, you're not that smart Deb, I'm sure you need way more than just a fucking essay to pass this class."
Maggie snorted, I was sick and tired of her, I didn't like being treated less than, I wanted to be treated equal. Doesn't everyone like to be treated equal?
"She's not dumb, she's more intelligent than you are. I mean you didn't even know how to spell 'syllabus' at one point in the semester, don't talk down to her."
Ophelia spoke up before returning to her studies, I smiled at her before looking back at Maggie who was dumbfounded.
" I am not as dumb as you think I am, just because I understand things slower than you do doesn't make me any less smarter than you. "
With that being said, Maggie scoffed and walked away as if she was a Disney bully who had just been defeated with the magic of kindness, what a weirdo. Although my day didn't start out as good as I wanted it to, it was pretty decent throughout my afternoon, evening, and night.
This was going to be a daily struggle but I'll surpass it, besides, I've got Ophelia to have my back whenever I need it. Sometimes it's funny when she doesn't have good comebacks, but I respect it, for the reason that she always defends me.
