.XIX."What did you want to talk about ?" Tyler questions after he got over his rapidly beating heart. He gave Ayla an annoyed you-didn't-have-to-call-me-if-you-were-gonna-show-up-here look and then adjusted his sports-bag strap on his shoulder.
"They still think that you have the moonstone and I want to keep it that way. So if Mason or anyone else asks you about the moonstone tell them that you don't know where it is. However, you genius told Jeremy that you had it so tell him that Elena came to pick it up." Ayla said while giving the Lockwood a warning look.
Tyler just sighed and nodded, knowing that he wouldn't be able to do anything else. And to be honest, he was kinda scared of the brunette.
"good" with that Ayla left.
Later that day Ayla found herself being forced to attend the preparations for the masquerade ball, which would be held the next night. Literally. Mason came barging into the Salvatore's living room and pushed the girl into his car. With a poor explanation of 'if Caroline is forcing me to do this, you'll suffer with me' they were off to help the major.
Ayla found herself getting along with Mason really well. They were both sarcastic and annoyed of everyone else around them (except their mates). And she loved how annoyed Mason grew every time she called him her bestie, so that was a plus.
On the car drive Ayla pondered over the thought of Katherine. She wondered if Mason was still seeing her, but then again it wasn't her business and she didn't want to explain to Mason how she even knew that. Taking the risk, and deciding that Caroline's feeling were much more important, she asked him. "Mason, are you still seeing Katherine?" the Lockwood was more than surprised that Ayla knew something about his former rendezvous with the doppelgänger.
"why would you say that?" he tried to brush off. He felt uncomfortable talking about it. Though a stern look from the brunette made him recoil "No, I don't. Or yes, but not how you think." Mason stammered, trying to explain himself. Ayla looked ahead of the road, making sure that they wouldn't crash because of Mason's nervousness. "Elaborate please" Ayla said calmly. She wanted to let him explain before snitching him to Caroline.
"I don't want Katherine to find out that Caroline is my soulmate, she would use her against me. So I play along, pretend to still be in love with her and to things she wants. But there's nothing happening between us anymore. I find excuses." Ayla felt relieved. She was impressed at how Mason handled this so well. She always thought that og Mason was kinda dumb but this Mason is actually pretty smart.
