If there is one thing Elijah has always been sure of in his life it is the unconditional love he holds for his family. And ever since becoming a vampire and getting an understanding of what it means to be a supernatural being, that love extended to his soulmate. A soulmate he has never met before. He can't explain it, but knowing that there is someone destined to be his and only his is fascinating to him. (a/n: cough cough, sorry, my bad)
There was a time of darkness in his life and looking back at the mistakes he made, he sometimes questions how someone could actually accept to be his soulmate. Then again, he has been roaming the earth for a thousand years and the desire to find one's soulmate diminishes after a couple century's.
There were numerous occasions where he thought that his soulmate had died, result of unbearable pain out of seemingly nowhere. Despite the occasional times of utter terror he has felt when something was happening to his soulmate over the years, he has come to terms with one fact: his soulmate is a vampire, there is no other explanation, seeing how the first time he experienced unbearable pain has been over a hundred years.
Meeting Jeremy has made him believe that his former soulmate must have died and Jeremy is his next soulmate. Finding out about Ayla Salvatore has made a lot of things clear. He couldn't wait to meet her, to spend time with both of his soulmates, get to know them and live happily with them. But it could never be that easy, because his soulmate was lost. In the confines of some lunatic in a prison world no one could locate.
Elijah was many things: regal, calm, stern and serious, a gentleman with proper manners most of the time -when he wasn't ripping out hearts- but he would've never considered himself a stalker nor an eavesdropper. But that's what he was doing currently. He had stalked Jeremy to his house and was now lurking around, close enough to eavesdrop to the conversations inside. He had called the Martins as soon as he figured out who Ayla is and ordered them to do their research on how to get her back.
Once he heard Damon announce a message from Ayla, he knew he could no longer stay away. His previous plans about the doppelgänger and everything else thrown out the window once his knuckles made contact with the wooden door.
Silence. Then footsteps. The door opened to reveal Stefan Salvatore. He looked at Elijah in shock "How are you alive" the blonde asked in disbelief, clutching the door tighter. "I believe the answer you're looking for is immortal" Elijah smirked, smoothing his hands over his suit jacket. Damon joined Stefan and he was about to slam the door shut as soon as he saw who was at the door but Elijah was quick in saying "I may be able to help you."
Damon slowly opened the door again with raised eyebrows. "With what? You trying to kidnap Elena again?" Though Elena was the last thing on Damons mind right now, he still couldn't let her be kidnapped, if only for the sake of Stefan and Jeremy.
