"Why the sour face, Jack? Aren't you happy to see me?" Pitch asks with that taunting smile.
Jack wanted to whack that smile right off his smug face, but he didn't move away from his friend who was cowering in fear behind him. "Why are you here?" He asked in a low tone.
"I was merely curious. I heard a girl singing and to my surprise, I found you." Pitch replied casually. His gaze met Friendly's violet eyes and grinned at the fear in them. "You have a beautiful voice my dear. I would truly love to hear it scream." He said, taking a step closer.
Friendly's heartbeat increased and her eyes widened at the strange man. Jack's face hardened and his grip on his staff tightened, his knuckles turning as white as Friendly's skin. He spoke through gritted teeth. "If you so much as lay a finger on her, Pitch-" he was cut off by Pitch's laughter. It echoed through the forest sending a chill down both Friendly and Jack's spines.
Pitch took another step closer and Jack took a step backward, pushing Friendly backward too.
"I quite like that little friend of yours, Jack. Her fear is quite energising." Pitch grinned, his gaze locked on Friendly's eyes, filling them with fear.
Jack held his arm out in front of Friendly as a protective gesture.
"Tell me, girl. What is your name?" Pitch asks, softly.
Friendly's breathing hitched as she trembled in fear of this man who was getting closer and closer to them.
"Yes, that's it child. Fear me." He grinned from ear to ear, stepping closer. "The fear in your eyes is so beautiful to me."
Friendly gripped onto Jack's hoodie and closed her eyes tightly. Jack continued to lead her backwards, away from Pitch.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you, girl!" Pitch suddenly snapped startling her. Her eyes shot open and her teeth began to chatter.
Jack's grip on his staff tightened even more. He knew that Pitch was tormenting her because of her fear. He fed on fear, and right now Friendly was giving him an all-you-can-eat buffet. He had to get her away from him. Pitch wanted her. He could tell. He could see it in his eyes. 'If he thinks he's getting her, he's got another thing coming.' Jack growled in his mind.
"It's alright, Friendly, he won't hurt you while I'm here." He whispers, attempting to calm his friend. There was no way in hell he would let Pitch hurt her. No way in hell.
Friendly clung onto Jack's hoodie, her heart rate decreasing slightly. She hung onto Jack's words and tried to calm herself. Pitch continued to stare into her eyes, grinning at her deviously.
"You think you can protect her, Jack? You're so pathetic!" Pitch sneered at the boy. Then he glared harshly at him. "Though it would be entertaining to see you try." He suddenly snapped his fingers and around ten fearlings formed a circle around the pair.
Jack held his staff with both hands, his head jerking in every direction. They were trapped. Friendly's fear rose higher than before and Pitch's grin grew even wider if possible. Jack leaned closer to Friendly.
"Listen, as soon as I start to attack, I want you to fly away as fast as you can." He whispered.
Friendly's fear was suddenly washed over with a different kind of fear. Fear for Jack's safety. She gripped his hoodie tighter and gave him a stern look. "There is no way I'm leaving you here." She said. She meant for it to come out in a serious tone but it came out all shaky. She cursed herself mentally for that.
Jack suddenly turned to face her and gave her a serious look. "Friendly, Pitch is after you. If he gets you, I would never forgive myself." He whispered.
