Friendly and Jack follow Sandman as he sends out waves of golden sand through children's windows, filling their heads with joyful dreams. Friendly watched closely in amazement. She loved North's workshop and his sleigh, and she loved Tooth's colourful tooth palace. But Sandman's dreams were incredible to her.
She loved to watch the dreams. She was fascinated by them. She smiled widely as she watched a child's dream about flying. She was sitting by his bed, her eyes glowing as the bright golden sand reflected in her eyes. Jack knelt beside her.
"It's amazing, huh?" He asks.
Friendly nods. "I never knew how amazing the world could be. The places, the children, you guys. I never knew what I was missing."
Jack grins. "Well, you're apart of it now." He nudges her.
She chuckles. "I honestly don't know why I was so afraid. I was so scared of everything. I don't understand why though. And surprisingly enough though, I'm not afraid of the dark. I never have been. It just doesn't affect me." She shrugs.
There was a short pause. "Is there anything that caused you to be so afraid?" Jack asked.
Friendly just shrugged. "I don't know. I can't remember. I guess I've been scared ever since I woke up I guess."
"You don't sleep?"
"Nope. I guess that's why I'm not scared of the dark. I used to wander around the mansion at night with only the moonlight shining through the windows. The room was always pitch black too when I sang to Charlie."
Jack winced. Even though she wasn't referring to the name it still sent chills down his spine. Friendly felt it too. She shuddered.
She began to sing softly to try and get her mind off it. Jack straightened his back and his goosebumps disappeared. His fear was suddenly washed away with Friendly's singing. He smiled. He loved to listen to her. Even the child seemed to enjoy it. The dream above his head showed him flying still, but doing fancy tricks.
Jack peered at the boy, then at Friendly. He tapped her shoulder and she stopped singing.
"Ghosty..." He thought for a second. "C-could you say his name again?" He asked.
Friendly raised an eyebrow. "Who's name? Pitch Black?"
Jack immediately shuddered at the name. He closed his eyes and began to picture what he feared. He pictured Pitch prying Friendly away from him by the neck. He imagined the fear in her eyes. He winced at the horrible thought. "Now sing again." He whispered.
Friendly blinked but she obeyed. She began to sing a softer tune. Slower and softer than it is originally performed.
"Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating, do you understand?
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?"
Jack's thoughts were suddenly washed away with happier thoughts. The images ran through his head like a river. He imagined himself defeating Pitch and rescuing Friendly from him. His eyes shot open as all of his fear was washed away.
"I believe it's meant to be, darling
I watch you when you're sleeping, you belong with me
Do you feel the same, am I only dreaming?
Or is this burning an eternal flame?"
