It had been two days since Friendly was brought back to the Pole. She was still unconscious but she was healing and her skin was slowly turning back to its original colour. Jack hadn't left her side the whole time, not even once. The stitches in his cheek had been removed by now as beings like him heal quicker than humans.
Light hadn't left her side either. It had grown just a little as Friendly healed and was standing at the end of her bed, guarding her from anything that dared try to hurt her.
Jack was sat at the side of the bed on a chair. The other guardians visited the infirmary as often as they could to check on them. They insisted that they would watch her as Jack still had work to do. The snow had already melted in some places, but Jack refused to leave Friendly's side until she awoke. They were lucky that Pitch hadn't tried anything to break into the pole, which was weird, but they weren't complaining. They were always ready for sudden attacks but they never happened thankfully. The guardians hated Pitch for what he did, and he would most definitely pay for it.
Jack hadn't slept ever since the incident and the dark circles were now clearly visible under his eyes. He ran his hands through his hair which was slightly messier than its original state. Sandman floats in silently to check on them. He nods a Jack who nods back, blankly. Jack was obviously the most affected by Friendly's injuries. He hadn't let go of her hand ever since he took hold of it.
Sandman gently replaces the dream sand above Friendly's head with a fresh wave.
"She's been dreaming, you know." Jack mutters.
Sandman looks at him with a confused expression.
"She told me that she doesn't sleep. If she doesn't sleep then how can she dream?" Jack smiles slightly. "Seems like she's just been denying sleep all these years. No wonder she has such dark circles around her eyes."
Sandman smiles at the slight humour in his voice. He could tell Jack missed Friendly. Hell, anyone could see that he had feelings for her with the way he's been acting. If they weren't in such a delicate situation then Bunnymund would have teased the poor kid until he'd explode.
Sandman pets Light on the head before sitting on a chair. That's how it was most of the days. Just sitting in silence, praying the girl would open her eyes. Friendly obviously wouldn't be able to leave the infirmary for at least a few days, but just to see her violet eyes would calm the guardians a lot more. Jack promised himself that he'd get Pitch for this.
A few hours passed and Sandman eventually left the infirmary. Jack felt Friendly's forehead and sighed. She had a fever. The wind had crawled in through the open window a while ago and was attempting to cool her. Jack smiled gratefully. He gently rubbed his bandaged arm as he shifted slightly. He wanted to try and cool Friendly himself but he didn't want to make her too cold.
In the end he decided to climb up on the side of the bed and lay next to her. He put his cold hands on her arm and smiled as she began to cool down slightly. Light whined and curled up on the other side of the bed, determined not to be left out. Jack chuckled at the white wolf and patted its head lightly. A little while later, Jack found himself drifting off to sleep.
The rays of the sunrise gently shone through the windows and lit up the room. It shone on the three laying on the white bed. Jack and Friendly's eyes were closed while Light continued to watch over them. Tooth and Baby tooth soon entered the infirmary to say good morning to Jack and Light but they stopped and smiled at the scene before them.
Jack and Friendly where laying on their sides, facing each other, hand in hand. They were both in a deep slumber, oblivious to what was going on.
