I knew he was gone, we've been preparing for this for more than 6 months but I just didn't want to accept it. Living without Luc just seemed too hard.

I was getting an award that night for "In another life" , my last book. It had been a great success and I just how much better it would have been with Luc by my side. But I had to deal with it, he had to go, his parents needed him so we would have to do long distance for the next six months. I was overreacting, of course, because I had gotten so used to his presence that six months without him seemed like an eternity. And it didn't help that it was my birthday that night too.

I got out of bed and turned the TV on, the sound helped me feel less alone now that Luc was gone. The news was on and I started getting some coffee ready.

— Horrible news Today in Buenos Aires as the police found the body of a young woman near the Palermo Lakes.

The world has gone to shit I thought as I continued with my morning routine.

— Shocking that this is only one in the series of bodies that have been found over the last couple of months, in what is thought to be the work of a serial killer. We strongly encourage the women of the area to be safe and avoid walking in the parks at night.

Serial killer? I clearly haven't been watching the news lately. I get my coffee and sit down on the couch.

— We are live with the detective in charge of the case. We thank you for talking with us. What can you tell us and the public about the case and are you near to finding who is responsible for these horrible crimes?

— I'm not at liberty to disclose information about the case, we can just say we are lucky as there were two victims yesterday and one of them is fighting for her life, what could mean we could have a potential witness if she makes it.

— Unofficial sources have said to us that the common denominator is that all victims were drained completely of their blood, can you confirm?

I think I blacked out for a second when I heard that. I could hear mumbling in the back of my head from the TV but the phrase "drained completely of their blood" was what kept repeating in my mind.

— We can't confirm any information, I would ask that everyone stays safe, we are doing everything in our power to find this atrocious murderer and we will find them. We also ask for the public to come forward if they saw or know anything that can help.

— We'll keep the victims in our prayers and hope that the potential witness makes it through and can help identify this murderer.

Drained completely of their blood. Serial killer. Drained completely of their blood. I stood up as quickly as I could and ran to the front door to check if it was locked. I ran to the windows and closed the shades. I had the urgent feeling of being watched. I sat on the kitchen floor, aways from doors and windows with my phone and called Luc. He was on the plane, he wouldn't answer but I wasn't thinking clearly.

— Cas! How are you?

— Steph, did you see the news?

— Yep, what about them?

— Serial killer.

— Yes, it's horrible, it's been on for a month non stop, where have you been living?

— Why didn't you tell me anything?

— I thought you knew, and so many bad things happen that if we worry about all of them we wouldn't be able to live Cas.

— They say he is draining their blood Steph.

— That's a new one, draining their blood?? What the fuck?
