I woke up to the sound of fighting coming from outside the window. Jumped out of bed and opened the curtains. There was some sort of training happening in the gardens. The men and women dressed in black were paired up and fighting each other. There was a man standing in front of them. I could see his back as he was facing away from the house.
On the lake there were more people rowing. Long thin boats with 4 people each. I was mesmerized by the coordination of their movements.
The sun had just risen and was tainting everything it touched with the most beautiful orange colors and flares. I placed my hand against the window and felt the warmth of the sun hitting against the glass.
I turned around and realized there was something on the bench at the feet of my bed. I walked to it and picked it up. Clothes, black clothes. Someone had left them there for me to use.
"Please wear this Today and come downstairs to the breakfast room."
I giggled. This was all feeling very unreal. My life had become unreal for a while now, but this? A handwritten note, a castle, fighting in the garden. It all seemed absurd.
I put on the clothes which fit a bit too loose for my body and picked up my phone, the battery had died. I left it in the room and walked the long corridor towards the stairs. I crossed path with other people who were going down too.
—Morning. –They said.
—Morning. –I answered everyone who greeted me.
I followed their lead as I didn't know my way around yet. Some of them were going outside and others took a left and walked through another corridor downstairs which led to a huge salon. Three long tables across the room that looked like they could accommodate hundreds of people. I stood at the entrance and looked around to see if I could find Luc.
—Cas. –He placed his hand on my shoulder and I was startled. —Sorry.
I turned around. —Morning.
He turned around and started walking back to where I came from. —Follow me.
I did, we passed the stairs one more time and this time went right. We crossed many people on our way and they all greeted Luc as they passed by him.
"Sir."
"Brother."
"Sir."
They all said and nodded while they kept walking. Luc gave no answer to any of them.
We walked around the maze that place was for me until he opened a wooden door which led to a room with a wall filled with books. The ceilings were so tall there were ladders on the walls to be able to reach the books on the higher shelves. It reminded me of that movie, meet Joe Black, the place where the guy meets death. I hoped that was not what was happening here.
Luc sat down at a leather couch and I sat down beside him. A huge window in front of us gave us a beautiful view of the gardens and the training that was happening there. In front of us, on a small table someone had set breakfast for us. Juice and coffee and fruits. It smelled delicious. I picked up my coffee and took a sip.
—Soooo... –I dragged my words as I put the coffee cup down on the table.
He tilted his head and looked at me and smiled. —Soooo... –He mocked me.
I pushed his shoulder. —Come on Luc. Talk to me.
—This is Helligdom, my home. –He paused.
—Yeah, I'll need more than that.
He laughed. —I grew up here with 14 of my brothers and sisters. Not here, here. The castle was built long after our birth. Our "mother" or... vessel, was a high priestess who guided us into our destiny till her passing. Her sole life was dedicated to keeping a balance between power, destruction and nature. She was a good soul and welcomed any other being that could help in her quest. We were not evil, not at first. We too had a purpose. A good one.
