That smell, the horrible smell of blood, rotten blood flowing through veins that were not supposed to own it. I quite hate the smell of vampires. I would love to be able to kill them all, but the balance and all that stupid morality that holds us responsible...exhausting.
That was the smell I felt as soon as I opened the door to my house that afternoon. My senses became alert, my whole body turned into a weapon and I became a hunter for the first time in a decade.
—Anne. –I shouted.
—In the bedroom. –She said. Her voice was broken, she was crying.
It took me a split second to move my body the 50ft that separated the front door to the bedroom door. I didn't see him, he was just a shadow falling from the window but I knew what he was, I knew that smell. I could have gone after him but she was there, she had seen him and I needed to check on her. My hunter instinct was fighting me, I really wanted to tear him in two.
—Love. –I finally snapped and went to her and tried to hug her.
—Don't touch me. –She pushed me with disgust. —Is it true? Did you make my husband hit me?
—Anne, what are you talking about?
—He told me, he... he was not human, oh my god what are you, what's happening... –she was hysterical, she stood up and started pacing around the house. I followed her and tried to convince her that was not true.
—Anne, you are acting crazy. What the hell is going on, who was that man in our bedroom?
—He was a vampire! –she shouted at me and pushed me. —He said you are dangerous, that you made my ex husband hit me. That you are crazy.
I laughed. —Love, please listen to yourself, do you see how stupid you sound?
—STUPID? There was a vampire in my bedroom!
—How can you believe in vampires? Have you been drinking?
Her anger grew. —Get out of my house. –She pushed me again.
—Please, calm down. You are talking about vampires, what do you want me to say?
—He came through the window! He showed me his teeth, he showed me his strength, HE DRANK MY BLOOD, he was a vampire! –She said as she showed me her wrist and I could see the teeth marks.
—I'm going to kill him. –My face turned dark and I couldn't hide the anger. I took her hand and couldn't stop watching her wound. —Are you ok?
—Am I ok? No, I'm not ok, please tell me the truth, who are you, did you do what he said?
—Of course not my love, of course not. But I will tell you the truth, I will tell you the whole truth.
Of course I wouldn't, of course I would lie, but there was no sense in continueing saying there were no vampires if that stupid fuck had already showed his face and teeth to her.
I kinda told her a bit of the truth, a simplified version of it at least. I was a vampire hunter, I helped people, they hated me and that's why they've hurt her. I tried to protect her all this while. A hero.
She believed my story, but I needed to understand who that vampire was and why he was at my house, and how he knew about what I did to her husband. The only one who knew about that, was the stupid mind controller guy and I... so I had my answers.
The next morning I woke up and saw her asleep. I would come back, hug her, and never leave her side anymore, I just needed some answers and I would be back before she woke.
I went to pay a visit to the mind omnia, he didn't seem surprised to see me. I didn't even have to hurt him for him to give me the answers I needed.
—A vamp came looking for you, he had heard stories about your wife's ex husband and wanted to check if I had done something to him. He threatened to kill me, he was not a regular vamp, he was strong and even I had a hard time controlling him. I'm sorry, I just told him you needed some help in getting him out of the picture.
Dead. I used a small book that was in front of him to slice his throat. Now let's go find the vamp.
I heard the sirens before I even knew where they were coming from. I was feeling triumphant, It had been a long time since I've killed anything and my blood was flowing with more intensity than ever. I felt my skin burn. The sirens turned louder and my head started hurting, my senses were wide awake and the sound was louder and louder. I just wanted to get home to Anne, to hug her and make her feel safe as she should, because she was married to the most powerful being on earth. The sirens, more and more sirens and the sound, it wouldn't stop.
I killed them all.
The two policemen that were standing in the front door and wouldn't let me in my own house. The 4 paramedics that stood on top of my dead wife's body as she laid in bed with her blood dripping through her neck. I broke the neck of the 6 policemen who stormed into the apartment as they heard the screams and 5 of the neighbors who came to see what was going on as I massacred the whole bunch of humans who witnessed the darkest day of my infinite life.
And that was only going to be the start of it all.
