—Promise me you wont leave the house. –Idris said.

—Yes sr.

—You won't talk to anyone.

—Yes sr. –I mockingly took my hand to my forehead and a soldier would.

—You won't...

I interrupted him. —We've already been over the rules 200 times. I know, I know, I know. I won't exist till you are back. I swear.

—It'll only be a week.

—Go, you've put your life on hold for me. I can put mine on hold for a week for you.

—I hate this.

—It will be worse if you don't go, they'll know something's up.

Vampires, who knew they were social beings too? Once a year, ancient and powerful Vampires get together in Germany. Each Vampire has a "position" or "role" they need to serve. And each year they get promotions and things like that. I didn't keep track of all the wordings but it seemed like something very boring. What was interesting and I did enjoy learning is that Idris was part of the senior counsel.

He explained to me that when vampires first appeared, they were as what I knew from the movies. Creatures of the night, crazy and all that. He said that the first vampires who ever walked the earth were a family of 10. Only 5 members of that family are still alive. Hinbans had managed to kill the other 5 members. Their bodies were never found but they never again appeared in one of the counsel's meetings.

Those vampires gave birth to the second generation and then the third and you can follow the story from here. Every 100 years, vampires evolve and gain new abilities and powers. The eldest ones are the strongest and more powerful ones and then comes what they refer to as "the 20". Idris is part of this second line of vampires, which means he is one of the 20 more powerful and stronger vampires in the world. Who knew?

All this story he told me because he had to leave, if he didn't attend they would assume he is dead or hibernating and they would promote another vampire to his place.

As soon as he was gone, the world felt too big and I felt smaller and lonelier than ever.

We had spent six months together and most of that time sleeping on the same bed next to each other and now I had to survive a week without him. I'd never felt less independent in my whole life than at that moment.

I got dressed and went to the breakfast table to meet Ciara and James the morning after Idris was gone. The sun was bright and the weather was warm. It hadn't rained in a while which was weird for that time of year Ciara used to tell me.

Since our arrival, Idris had booked all the rooms of the B&B to make sure nobody could see or hear anything that would put me in harm's way. But that morning everything seemed even quieter than usual.

I walked into the breakfast room and Ciara and James were sitting at the table next to the window looking at each other. As soon as they heard my steps, they didn't move, but I could hear loudly.

—RUN. RUN CAS. RUN. –Both their minds were screaming at me but their bodies were not moving, they were acting completely calm.

I stopped and stood still. I even tried to stop breathing. I directed my thoughts at Ciara. —What's going on?

—He is here.

—Who is here?

—Faceless. Run Cas, he hasn't heard you yet.
