matt and emersyn sat at the lunch table waiting for his 2 brothers who were and will always be late to the cafeteria probably

matt had been fidgeting with his fingers since she showed up. which was like 10 minutes ago. emersyn of course noticed and had asked what was wrong but he just said nothing, and since she didnt want to pry, she let him be. she kept an eye on him of course, but other than that, they both just made small talk.

matt was super nervous, like really nervous. his heart was beating so fast it felt like it wad gonna burst out of his chest any second.

he knew he had to ask her before his brothers arrived, or else it would all just be weird, asking her in front of them.

matt had recited that words in his room to his wall since the night before. he was head over heals for emersyn brookes, he didnt want to believe it, but he was.

he finally got the courage to stop being a baby and just ask her. it was his chance.

"hey em?" matt looks at her

"yeah?" emersyn looks back at him "you okay?"

"yeah im fine, can i just ask you something?" he asks, his heart beating a hundred beats per second

"yeah of course" she says

"do yo-, uhm, do you like, want to go to homecoming with me?" he asks nervously

"together? like only us?" she asks

"yeah" he says, trying to not look down

"yeah sure" she smiles gently

emersyn found it strange for him to ask her. the plan was for all 4 of them to go together - not only emersyn and matt - emersyn had no romantic feelings toward the boy. she looked at him as her best friend.

she didnt know that matt actually liked her and he thought by her saying yes, that meant she also had some sort of feeling toward him.

she thought they were just going as friends, but matt had a different perspective.
