~Summer~ (Age: 16)
"I can't believe we're going into our second year already and then we graduate next year," I deadpanned as I realized that our summer break was almost over and we would start summer school next week.
"You said this was your last week babysitting?" Asked Hamin as he rested his head on my shoulder while inside a small cafe. Rather than sitting across the booth from me, he decided to sit next to me with his hand gently caressing mine.
"Yeah, I'm a little sad about it because I actually enjoyed it even if it was only a few hours a week."
"Do you think...she would let me join you this week?" He suddenly asked me which surprised me.
"Do you want to ask her? I don't think she'll mind and I'm sure you can find a way to convince with your sweet talking," I chuckled at the end.
He lifted his head off my shoulder and lightly pinched my cheek. "It would be fun to watch how you handle a crying child."
"I'm doing well with them," I said as I removed his hand from my cheek and did the same to him. "I think you'll be the one having trouble."
"You're forgetting the fact that I'm the one with a younger sibling here," he retorted as he broke away from the pinch.
"You can ask her tomorrow when we get there, but won't your mom know that you're skipping your hagwon?"
"Who knows. I just have to make sure I don't get caught."
~The Next Day~
The mother was a bit hesitant when Hamin asked if he could help too even if it meant not getting paid for it, but decided to trust me and allowed him to.
The way he cared for a child was heartwarming and at the end of the day, he stole the child's heart and ending up liking him more than me.
"That was nice," he said with a closed eyed smile as we descended the stairs in the apartment complex.
"You stole her from me!" I hissed.
"It's not my fault," he shrugged. "But you did well with them. I think you can make it into that field," he sincerely answered with a sweet smile.
"I think you would be great with kids in the future. Don't you think so?" I voiced out of the blue.
"Weren't you saying just yesterday that I would be terrible?" He laughed.
"I was only joking. But I think I could have seen you working in a school or something if it weren't for your parents. You have a good heart and know what they need."
He stayed silent for a moment because he was unsure how to respond to that. The future I envisioned was something that never crossed his mind because he never had an option from the beginning.
The idea of him living a future that he could pleasantly enjoy made his lips curl upward.
"Is that something you've thought about before?" He asked as he pushed open the door for me.
"What?"
"Envisioning me with children."
"It's just something that crossed my mind recently."
An idea popped up and a mischievous smile appeared on his lips as he was ready to tease me. "I never knew you were envisioning our future already."
"I didn't mean that!" I retorted.
"How many children can you see in our future? I'll care for them well." He cupped my cheeks with a never ending smirk. I lowered my head and leaned into his chest to hide my embarrassment while he simply laughed.
I pulled my head away after a few seconds and felt something light hit my skin. I looked up and felt a raindrop hit my cheek. "Oh, it's going to start raining."
Hamin dug into his black backpack and pulled out an umbrella for us that he quickly opened.
The light rain that graciously fell from the sky turned into a downpour.
"The air is so humid and suffocating during the summer that it makes it hard to breathe," stated Hamin as he extended his hand out and let the heavy raindrops hit the palm of his hand.
"But...it's always been easier to breathe when I'm with you." He whispered as he pulled me in for a hug and rested his chin on top of my head with an endearing smile.
You are one of the reasons why I haven't lost my sanity.
I don't know what I would do without you
