Chapter 25-

Weeks went by. There was nothing left lost between Jill and Aaron; nothing left unsaid, and knowing this, Aaron was finally making the move.

                Marriage. Proposal. A new start.

That's the way the story was supposed to go, wasn't it???

It was funny, because in all of his fifteen years 'away', he'd had his Aunt and Uncle keep the ring he'd bought that faithful Valentine's. He wanted to use this ring, and none other. It proved that they were meant to be, that he loved Jill in every way humanly possible; and that they really hadn't lost anything.

Well, anything except time.

That did not matter, Aaron conceded. The day that Jill announced her divorce was through, he would start planning. Aaron finally arose from bed and showered, and having just rapped himself in a robe, he came into the living room for coffee.

The doorbell rang. Aaron peeked through the window to see Jill, and then smiled as he let her in.

"I'm so sorry I came by unannounced. But I wanted you to read this with me. The divorce papers are here..." Oh, the irony. "But there's a letter."

                "From James?"

"I assume so." She smiled, throwing the letter on the couch and straddling him as he sat down.

"I'm confused. Why are you happy?"

"I read it." She kissed him passionately, and he gave in, wanting nothing more than to give and go back to bed with his soon-to-be wife. He wanted to hold her in his arms. He wanted to tell her-

"Read it." She kept kissing him while jerking the letter around in front of his face.

"Um...You're... kinda..." Aaron said between kisses.

"Distracting you?"

"Very much so." He said, breathless. He turned and opened the letter, wondering how in the world she would be so enticing this early in the morning. But then, that was Jill.

He made a distraught face when he saw it was an entire page long. He looked at Jill longingly, and she caught on. "Letter now. Kisses later." She smirked.

Aaron started to read to himself:

Jill,

You will never, ever, EVER believe who I met. Jodi! Jodi Christa from high school! There's no one I've ever wanted to meet more. I thought you should know. She was my high school girlfriend, until she moved suddenly senior year.

                I loved her!

And she's back. We picked up right where we left off, talking about anything and everything, and now... I've proposed.

I wanted you to know. Not because I'm rubbing anything in your face, but because our separation, and your genuine 'love' for another has brought me to my lost love.

I'm not a great writer, as you can see. I'm not poetic or even a great influence. But I want you to know that I'm happy.

I'm happy with Jodi. She brings me joy like no one else ever could. Not even you. I didn't mean that as an insult. Obviously you've moved on, and so have I. Anyway, take this letter as an invitation.

Jodi misses you, Jill. I told her your story, and she insisted that, if you guys were ready, that we should have a double wedding.

I don't know what Aaron's plans are; what he's going to do. But I think it would be amazing to have a double wedding in Boulder. Again, it is Jodi's idea. So don't shoot the messenger.

So write back, email me, whatever. Just let me know what you think about the prospect, and in the meantime, be happy. Be happy with Aaron.

Much love,

James

Aaron looked up at Jill. He looked back at the letter. "I don't... I don't have my ring."

"I don't care." Jill said, putting her arms around him. "This. This right here is the most wonderful place to be. And you know what that place is? It's wherever you are."

"I can't..." He looked at Jill carefully. Now was the best moment.

She pulled away from his waist, smiling, seeing the moment awaiting her. She sat back on the couch once Aaron had stood up.

He assessed his own looks, Jill eyeing his simple robe and wet hair. "As you can see, this is... well, extremely spontaneous."

"Again, I don't care." It was as if Jill was awaiting her turn to open a Christmas present. It gave him an odd pride that she included him in that feeling.

Aaron Stweart knelt on one knee in front of her and took her hand.

"Jill Denise Brewer." He said, letting her name run off his tongue smoothly. "I promise to love you until the day I die." The room was filling with an odd light, and he imagined his body once again intertwined with hers.

                "Will you marry me?"

There was a pause, as there should have been. They both knew the answer, and they both knew that they loved each other. Jill's eyes filled with tears as she mumbled a 'yes', finally leaning in and kissing Aaron without ceasing.
