The Blood of The Dragon

chapter 23

David reformed somewhere in the forest far away from the party, wanting to go for a walk to clear his head, so began to roam around aimlessly through the forest.

He became lost in his thoughts, thinking about how long and hard he had been trying to maintain control over his darkness and how he lost control to it for a brief moment after so many years of subduing it.

It had been so long that David had forgotten what it felt like, he had forgotten the pain, the emptiness and misery his darkness brought him every time he lost control.

David then remembered the way everyone looked at him including his friends, the look of fear and confusion like they were looking at a beast or kind of monster.

David remembered that look and remembered the way people used to give him that exact same look as a child.

David had been trying his best to let go of his painful past and his darkness along with it but just when he was starting to feel like he was freed from his darkness it reminds him that it is still a part of him, a part he could not remove not matter how hard he tried.

David reached a small river and decided to stop there and then looked at his reflection inside the river only to see a glimpse of his darker self in it, laughing and mocking him.

David who could not bear to sight of his darker self in his reflection struck the river with and as he did the river began to ripple and then David saw his darker self in his reflection slowly turn in to him as the water rippled.

Tears began to fall down from his eyes as the reflection from the river reminded him that he would never be free from his darkness and it would always be apart of him.

David then heard footsteps come from behind him.

He then turned around and saw the cloaked woman standing behind him.

He slowly tried to approach her but as he did retreated into the forest the moment he was about to get close enough to reach her David chased after her only to lose her in the thick forest.

David then heard the woman’s footsteps coming from somewhere in the forest and then followed the sound deeper in to the forest hoping to find the woman.

As David roamed the forest looking for the woman he did not notice the darkness that was slowly creaking around him.

He continued to chasing after the sounds of the woman’s footsteps until he realized that he was no longer walking on solid ground and was in an empty void of darkness.

David was confused and could not understand what was going on.

The darkness soon cleared away and David found himself once again in the castle he saw in his dream.

He saw the cloaked woman and standing behind her was the man with the dragon like arm.

“LOOK OUT!!!” screamed David in an attempt to warn the woman about the man but he was too late.

The man drove the claws on his dragon arm in to the woman from behind.

She then fell down on the ground with blood sipping out of her.

The man then vanished in a cloud of darkness.

David went to the woman see if he could help her in anyway.

"Are you okay” asked David.

“Find the locket” said the woman.

“What locket are you talking about?” asked David.

“The locket of the golden dragon warrior” said the woman before a cloud of darkness came out of nowhere and covered her complete causing her to vanish in the darkness.

Darkness grew and grew, consuming everything around David.

“Find it David, it’s the only way” the voice of the woman echoed through darkness.

“Where is the locket” asked David.

"You don’t have to know where it is, your blood already knows and it will guide you to” said the woman.

"What do you mean by that?” asked David but the woman gave no answer.

A bright light then appeared and as it did David heard a voice calling out to him.

“David, David, David” the voice grew louder and louder, and as it did the bright light grew brighter and brighter until David was fully engulfed by it.

David then slowly opened his eyes and found himself lying on the floor and in front of him were Susan, Flora, Afinto and Steven.

“What happened?” asked David as he got up, a bit confused.

“You tell us” said Steven.

“What happened to you back there with Jack” asked Susan.

David looked at the worried look on his their faces and sighed knowing that he could not tell them the truth about his darkness.

"I just could stand Jack’s attitude anymore and I guess I just lost it” said David.

"That’s an understatement; you looked like you were going to kill him. I don’t think I have ever seen you that angry before” said Steven.

“I promise you all, that is the last time you will see me like that” said David.

"I hope so, I’m not sure I’m a big fan of angry David even if he if beating up an idiot like Jack” said Flora.

“Same here, seriously David you were like beast ready to devour Jack” said Afinto.

David smiled a little, wondering if Afinto knew that he was actually right about him being a beast, at least whenever he control to his darkness.

“Come on guys it’s been a long night but we need to get back to the academy before sunrise, I don’t know about you all but I don’t want to get punished again” said Steven.

“Yeah, Steven is right” said Flora.

“Can we at least walk to the academy’s gate, I don’t think I have the strength to help Flora keep us all in air form all the way to the academy” said David.

"Sure thing, besides it’s a beautiful night out so we might as well enjoy it while we are out her” said Flora.

They all agreed and began to walk back to the academy gates.

“Thank you” whispered Susan to David.

"For?” asked David.

“The dance” said Susan.

“I didn’t do much you know especially with my two left feet” said David jokingly which caused Susan to smile a little.

"You did enough and that is enough for me” said Susan which caused David to smile a little.

Susan upon seeing the smile on his face couldn’t help but blush a little and hoped David wouldn’t notice.

“Would you two move faster, I swear even snails move faster than you two” said Steven.

David and Susan then realized that they were behind while the others were far ahead of them.

They then moved furthered and caught up with the others.
