Chapter 19

3rd Person

Early morning

It's early morning in Kuoh. The Kuoh Academy students all go inside the school building and head to their classrooms.

Meanwhile, Rias is sitting in her chair in the old school building. She is chewing on the nails of her right hand thoughtfully. The windows in the club room are all open.

Akeno cleans the club room with a feather duster. While she is cleaning, she starts talking without looking at Rias.

Akeno: Do you want to tell me what's on your mind?

Rias: Hm?

Rias stops chewing her nails and looks at Akeno, who is still concentrating on cleaning.

Rias: What do you mean Akeno?

Akeno: You seem so thoughtful since I got here in the club room this morning. Like something's on your mind.

Rias leans back into her chair.

Rias: *Sigh* Yes, yesterday's thing with Spiderman is on my mind. So far I could tolerate him in Kuoh, but now? Now that he knows about the existence of supernatural beings and apparently also hunts Stray Devil's, I don't know what to do.

Akeno: Why do you think that's a problem?

Rias looks at Akeno with a confused look. Akeno has now stopped cleaning.

Rias: Didn't you listen to me? A human knows of our existence. Spiderman made a Stray Devil disappear yesterday. Doesn't that worry you?

Akeno: Several human's know of our existence. Why does this one human bother you so much?

Rias leans forward, slightly over her desk.

Rias: Because we make contracts with these humans. Contracts that bind them to keep our existence secret. Do you actually know what could happen if he tells the world about our existence?

Akeno puts the feather duster on the table and sits on the couch. She answers her in a calm voice.

Akeno: And who should believe him? He doesn't have any evidence. He would probably be considered crazy if he claimed that living among humans were devils.

Rias: And what about the Stray Devil? What if he presents the Stray Devil to the humans? To proof his point.

Akeno: I don't think he would use the Stray Devil for that.

Rias: Why do you think that?

Akeno: Rias, think about it. How is a human who doesn't emit an aura of magic or an Sacred Gear supposed to make a Stray Devil disappear without a trace?

Rias thinks about what Akeno just said. When they first met, Spiderman did not emit an aura of magic or of an Sacred Gear.

Rias: ...You think he had help from supernatural beings?

Akeno nods at Rias' question.

Rias: It can't be. Yes Spiderman didn't have an aura of magic or of an Sacred Gear, but you felt it too. He was a human and not a devil. You know what the underworld thinks of humans. I don't know any devil in the underworld who would work with humans.

Rias is right. Large parts of the devil society despite humans. There are single exceptions, or even whole family clans like the Gremory's or the Sitri's but they are only the exception.

Akeno: I never said he had help from devils.

Rias is calm. Her eyes widen as she understands what Akeno means.
