"I bear no resentment that you hit her across the face, but you took the first wrong step by making us go there." They were in the silent hallway, walking back to their room. Most workers and teenagers were taking their afternoon naps, a reasonable cause for the deafening silence. Fortunately, even with how burdened up they were with chores, they get quality time to observe siestas.
Samantha's face was puffed with anger at everything that had just transpired between Veronica and Evelyn some minutes ago. She couldn't shake off the feeling that they were in trouble, although she didn't care. If Evelyn was actually the culprit behind the stalking and all, maybe they would have a good reason to barge into her room and make her regret, but no, she wasn't. "I know she acted crazy in there, but that doesn't mean you're more virginal. All of those sassy friends she has would take sides with her once they hear of this, even when she's the one at wrong. You know how much I detest troubles."
Veronica stopped dead in her tracks and rested her gaze on Samantha, studying her face for a while before separating her lips. "You're taking sides with her too, aren't you? The scissors could have hit any of us right in the face if we weren't so fast."
Samantha lifted her hands from her sides and dropped them again, her face emotionless. Veronica had gotten it all wrong again, and she was getting tired of explaining the situation of things to her. She had said it countless time that they couldn't just take actions, but it seemed her ears were off. If at all they wanted to punish Evelyn for putting up such act as Veronica believed, in which she didn't, they could have waited for the right time when she misbehaved real time and gathered them enough evidence to use against her with her own very act, and then, they could get on with it. Trying to beat her to it when she did nothing wrong was a game off, and they could get punished for it. That would be more painful.
"Yeah. It was insane of her to have done that. But we all know her personality's screwed up. She's been a crazy person from scratch. I thought we already talked about this with Mrs Olivia."
"But I think you dot on her more than you do on me." She replied. "And Miss Olivia was just being unreasonable. She probably didn't understand what I explained to her. If she did reason with me, she would have acted ethically."
Thinking she would win Samantha's heart over by inviting the woman to enlighten them, she had readied all her energy for the fight. she was furious when miss Olivia's point of view turned out to be the opposite of what she expected. She wished she hadn't invited her at all. Now she knew not all people who were scientifically inclined had her kind of knowledge. Their lifeline was on knowing the person and reason behind the ominous stalks, and the people that had their ears on the issue weren't even raising a finger. Till they trail along the empty streets of Washington, straining their ears to pay attention to slimy sounds and incoming danger while trying to pick up their dead phones to put a call through to people who would never pick up the call, maybe then someone would listen to her.
"I was wrong. Mrs Olivia was also wrong. And you think you're the right one, huh? Have you ever thought poltergeists movement cannot be drafted by someone? The sounds and movement are so secure that you can't put them down. Why does Evelyn have to be in this? We better not be turning into some hater."
Veronica rolled her eyes. "I need a manicure."
"And a brain cure," Samantha added and increased her steps, moving farther away from her. She placed a hand in one of her denim pockets and tucked her hair back with the other. Only she seemed to commiserate with the dilemma they were faced against with. If she shared the complication with someone as realistic as miss Olivia or better, Mrs Williams who was at her loftiest magnitude with the non-rational exertions extending in today's world, per case it would have been elite to solve the mystery on an easy level. "Because you don't seem to be okay."
