Somewhere in Alexandria Virginia, in a large ballroom filled with luminary business tycoons and wealthy iconic personnels stood Evelyn in her luxurious evening ball gown with a glass of white wine in her hand and a pretty smile on her blazing red lips. She'd only managed to get into the semi_finals of the competition through the help of Mr Steve, a forty year old man who was the director of the show and had been brought to the evening dance party alongside other contestants to share a few glass of wine with the people who contributed to the parade.

She was chatting eloquently with her new brunette friend _ Miranda Cosgrove, one of the businessman's daughter and was making a comment about the interior decoration of the colourful room. She'd only met with Miranda a few moments ago and had immediately turned her into a friend within that little time with the mindset of benefiting a few fortune from her before she returned to Washington. Evelyn thought there were too many rich people in the room presently and it'd be totally dumb of her if she left without getting anything special at the end of it all. She was a smart badass after all.

Miranda finished off her drink and blurted in a cold voice at the sweet comment her partner made with a sneer on her face. "It's nothing beautiful here compared to ours. You need to see the exquisiteness of the place and how big it is. My dad spent a lot of money on it just to make it look its best."

Evelyn's mouth opened wide and she wondered in astonishment if any other ballroom could be more beautiful than the one they were in. It was her first time attending a ball party and she'd been struck with awe and had almost acted like the unkempt pauper that she was when she entered into the heavenly furnished discotheque. How could someone here say there was something more greater than this in some other place? She might really end up dying in a hole if she ever came across it later.

Taking a small sip out of her wine, Evelyn felt her jaw tightened in jealousy and she instantaneously felt the urge to be like Miranda Cosgrove_ rich and majestic. If only there was a way she could be one, she wouldn't have to continue staying at the small orphanage where she had to associate with shitty people and work her ass off before having an entitlement to a decent meal. Everything would have been perfect if she was the daughter of a business tycoon. Evelyn thought and took another sip. "Your dad must be a great man."

A chuckle escaped the girl's mouth and she made a wave off sign with her hand. "That's an overstatement, Evelyn. My dad's just a common person and there's nothing dexterous about him except from the fact that's he's got money."

A waiter walked up to them and handed Evelyn another glass of wine on her request and left after retrieving the empty one from her. "His richness is what makes him a great man to me, Miranda. I don't care if he doesn't have any physical qualities," She said and took a sip from the new glass then added. "what matters most is having the cash available at hand. Unlike me, you're very lucky to have him as a dad."

Miranda shrugged in half agreement and tucked her hair behind her ears. "There are disadvantages of being a daughter of a rich and popular man, girl. I hope you know that, too."

"And what may they be?" She asked, not believing there were any. Being rich had no bad side and she didn't think she'd heard anyone complain about having a demerit in their richness.

Miranda cleared her throat and started. "First, you can't experience the fun things poor people enjoy because you think you're degrading yourself by joining in. Second, you keep relocating to different places everytime all in the name of working. And the third one, dear, your enemies keep growing in large numbers of crowd!"

"oh," Evelyn muttered and realized Miranda wasn't wrong after all. They were indeed many things poor people could do that the rich couldn't. But then.... "I don't really think the third one is for rich people only," she interjected. "We all have enemies who hate us for absolutely no reason. There are lots of foes at the orphanage who despise me with whole of their heart and if asked why, there would be no valid reason from them."

"Really?" Miranda mused and creased her brows."I guess it's because you're too beautiful and outshining."

Face laced with a bright blush and smile, Evelyn muttered a thank you and emptied her glass, again. "But there's this girl who everyone thinks is more outstanding than I am. It really makes me sad." She confessed wryly, Samantha's image popping into her head and making her face suddenly turn grim with anger.

It was only on the outside she chested those insults hurled against her on Samantha's defence but on the inside, she always burned badly and ended up sulking when she was alone. She really wanted the girl out of the way at any cost even if it meant putting the people around her in danger and causing trouble. She didn't care. "Do you have any secret hacks on how to make the girl's life miserable?"

Miranda laughed meaningfully and placed her glass of wine on the nearest buffet. That was her field of expertise_making lives miserable for enemies. There were lots of people who had fallen into her trap countless times and gotten filed out of their glamour. "My dear, there are a lot of things you can do to make the girl surrender to you. It's just too easy to do," She mentioned. "You just have to make sure you don't get caught along the way."

Evelyn nodded immediately and assured Miranda there was no going to be any mistake in the plot. Samantha was naive and could be conspired against easily even without stress. If it wasn't her best friend that'd been gearing her into the realistic world, the girl would have been long gone because she basically thought everyone had the kind of kindness she poccessed.

Satisfied with the determined look on her face, Miranda leaned in closer to Evelyn and muttered something into her ear. She drew back when she was done and watch the girl's lips curve up into a meaningful smile.

"You really have some dirty games up your sleeve, Miranda. I'm sure she's going to be speechless by the time we pull this off on her. Watch me ruin her reputation."

She smiled. "I'm sure this will turn out great. I hope she goes on her knees in tears and apologize for taking your fame away. No one messes with Miranda Cosgrove's friends."

The conversation would have lasted longer if Mr Steve didn't show up with a bundle of nerves and demanded to see Evelyn on an emergency.

Evelyn furrowed her brows and wondered what could have gone wrong with the director within the time they arrived at the party. She apologized to Miranda for cutting off their discussion  and pledged to return very soon before drifting out of the busy ballroom with the apprehensive man.
