"Remember you said you were going to repay me back in the future?" His gaze unwaveringly on her with softness emitting from within, Lestat asked, his hands holding tightly onto the wheel. He had just dropped them home and waited till the rest of her friends alighted the car before speaking.
Samantha nodded and unlocked her seat belt tiredly, silently appreciating the fact that everywhere was dark now. Had it been Lestat dropped them home at noon, the stares and queries would have been unbearable. "Yep, I did. Have you thought of anything I could do for you?"
He shook his head then nodded almost immediately, his dark curls dangling freely as his head moved. It was night now and everywhere was almost devoid of brightness outside the car, but the faint lights in the car still shone brightly on his handsome face and penetrated the beauty behind his mysterious eyes. With both of them just in the car, Lestat for a second felt like spending the rest of the night with her without any disturbance. It was rare for them to be alone together, not when she had many friends. "There's a business proposal I'd want you to go through for me tommorow at my penthouse and it's for a contract execution. Don't worry, I'll help you work through it if you need any help. I just want something different from the regular ones, and I think your ideas would be different."
Abruptly pausing from what she was doing, Samantha's eyes widened in astonishment and she sent Lestat a surprised gaze. "Me?! Proposal?!"
He nodded, then smiled. "My instincts tell me you can do it."
Samantha scoffed with a scare. "I'm not even qualified enough to do that. What makes you think I can handle a proposal? It's a freaking proposal, are you serious right now?"
He was serious and not stupid. He knew she was only a high school dropout without any valid credentials but he didn't care. She had surprised him many times and taken him aback by the things he thought she wouldn't know and had unknowingly proved her worth to him. He didn't want Penelope or the proposal writers to handle the task this time around because he wanted to prove to himself that she was capable and worth it. Only she could diligently fill out the space he was looking for.
"You think rather too lowly of yourself. A business proposal isn't something you should get scared for. Only a bit of tactics and intelligence is needed in making out the best proposal. You really don't need to hold your chest like that." He said, darting his eyes unconsciously toward the place he mentioned. When her eyes subconsciously met with his, he looked away immediately.
"You see," Samantha started with one eye closed and withdrew her hands from her chest slowly. "That little intelligence is what I really don't have. I might end up owing you the more if I decide to write out the proposal because I'm damned sure I'm gonna screw up."
Tickled by her words, Lestat bursted out into a fit of laughter and shook his head at her silliness. "I've never seen you act so serious. Are you really scared of screwing up or just don't want to repay me? It seems you're pretty good at making promises and not fulfilling them." He scorned playfully with a smirk, hoping she would give in.
"What do you mean, eh?" She drawled with big wide eyes and sneered. "I really want to pay you back but....... I don't want the whole of staff cursing on me for ruining such a big project."
Even if the staff didn't, Penelope would. If the mean secretary didn't tear her apart, it would be close to it.
"If you don't want that to happen, then you'll have to brace yourself and try your best. Or......" He trailed off intentionally and brought out the little piece of paper Samantha had thrown to the floor back at the company to her face again, smiling widely. "You wanna clear this up."
_Write a proposal or pay the fucking bill, dear stupid samantha, _it's your choice!__
Samantha swallowed and looked away from the bill, her hands finding her way to her chest again. He had voluntarily canceled the bet and asked her not to worry about paying for dinner but somehow, her dumbness and unbearable sincerity had walked their way through into making a stupid promise to pay him back in the future when he hadn't even asked for it. Leave it or take it, she was undoubtedly the most stupid person on earth at the moment. She apparently had no means of paying back the thousand of dollars so she only one thing to do: accept the task with a happy smile!
