The week of the summer festival ended and the results of the selection were now out. Tang Shushui made sure to get up extra early on Monday to go see the results as he dropped off the kids. The results were posted on the board outside of the school gate. The kids were feeling a little nervous as they followed their gege to see the results but they were quickly comforted by Tang Shushui.

When he got to the paper he saw a lot of parents. Some with joyful faces and some with disappointed and saddened faces. Tang Shushui went through the crowd and looked at the paper and as he did a smile formed on his face. Chun Hua was first in guqin playing and second in embroidery. Chaoxiang was first in both martial arts and arithmetics. Cai'er was first in poetry and third in calligraphy. Liu Qiu was first in archery and second in poetry. Seeing all the kids were in the top three and each topic they performed made Tang Shushui smile even broader. He was smiling so much with such a pretty face, so he earned many stares.

"Mrs. Zhangjie must be so proud. All of your kids made it to the top three," Kang Heng said as he walked over. His words surprised all the surrounding people, and they couldn't help but look at the resulting paper once again. When they saw all the kids with the surname Zhangjie in the top three in all of their respective performance categories, they couldn't help but feel envious. Could a family be this blessed?

"I can't deny that," Tang Shushui responded with a chuckle.

"Congratulations Mrs. Zhangjie, at this point should I just beg you to tutor my Renshu." Xia Tung-Mei jocked with a helpless voice. Even though her son came in second in math and arithmetic that didn't mean a thing to her. Of course, Zheng Renshu's father would be proud that his trouble-making son actually ranked in something, but to Xia Tung-Mei who was used to the battle of the inner court, Zheng Renshu was destroying his future. Of course, she didn't want to be like these mothers who used their sons, but this school can't even compare to that of the capital, so her son ranking second would stir some things in the capital. But she wasn't that worried knowing who her son lost to.

"Don't say that. Look how close the score of young master Zheng is to Chaoxiang, and he had no tutor. Do you really think he has something to worry about?" Tang Shushui comforted seeing the genuine worry in Xia Tung-Mei's eyes.

"I have to congratulate you Mrs. Zhangjie. You really are talented, being able to bring up kids like these." Han Hualing praised as she looked at the Tang Shushui and then at her daughter. Even though her daughter came first in embroidery, she still came second and guqin playing which is the most important talent a girl can have. She was mad at her daughter but she couldn't discipline her.

You could say that her daughter was born with a great mind. When she was born she was the apple of her mother's eye, and her mother would go above and beyond for her. But after she became the official wife and birthed a di son, she loved Lao Meifeng less and less and just saw her as a tool since she was the most favored child of the Minister Of Finance. Though Lao Meifeng is little she was smart and knew how to discern who loved her or not. Her father, the Minister Of Finance was not that great of a husband but he was a great father and loved all of his kids. But he loved Lao Meifeng more because Lao Meifeng also loved him greatly. The first legal wife of the Minister Of Finance also loved Lao Meifeng greatly as she had no daughter.

So over time Lao Meifeng distanced herself from her biological mother and acted more and more mature over time. She played good daughter when she wanted to, and played spoiled young miss when she wanted to. Hua Hualing started regretting her decisions after realizing that her status and wealth had really gotten into her head and made her see her daughter as a tool, but Lao Meifeng wasn't very forgiving. So when she ranked second, she scolded Lao Meifeng but Lao Meifeng took her intentions the wrong way. She was a second wife and she knew no matter status or husband backing you will go through humiliation, so she wants her daughter to be the best of the best so she didn't have to deal with concubines or second wives.

"Thank you for your praise, but it's the kids who deserve it," Tang Shushui responded politely.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Zhangjie. After this may we have a talk?" A pale yet beautiful lady asked with a gentle smile on her face. She was wearing plain gray clothes, with only a single silver hairpin stuck in her bun. This was none other than Su Junjie's mother, Mao Xueqin.

She was also at the restaurant last time when everyone came to eat but she rarely spoke. Tang Shushui had observed her during that time and could see her attitude. She was a loving mother who met a scumbag husband. During the whole dinner she was only making sure that her son ate, never once remembering to put some on her plate until Xia Tung-Mei urged her to. It seemed like those two knew each other and had a good relationship.

"No problem, we can have talked in the carriage later," Tang Shushui responded.

"I'll be blunt with you Mrs. Zhangjie. Could we set up a playdate with your children and mine? My timid son actually came home happy about socializing for once in his life. If you aren't my savior then what are you?"  Sun Shuyan asked as she joked.

"Me too, Kang Yanmei seems really impressed by your daughter's archery skill and wanted to have a playdate with her. Is that okay with you," Kang Heng asked before Tang Shushui could respond to Sun Shuyan.

"Of course, I don't mind, I am available anytime this week so you can drop them off," Tang Shushui agreed.

"Okay then, Wednesday will work for me," Sun Shuyan responded politely.

"Me too," Kang Heng echoed
