Jiang Tao Binwen wanted to retort and defend himself but these words of defense died in his throat. His little nephews who were just looking at him with admiration in their eyes were now looking at him with eyes full of confusion. He felt a bit guilty but quickly assured himself that he was doing all this for the clan. After all, when he became a respectable scholar would a village shrew look good as his wife? Wouldn't it ruin his reputation and drag his who family down? He needed to do these things in order to bring prosperity to the family! With that in mind, he quickly gained back his confidence.
"Jiang Yanwei! You should discipline your wife more, he even dares try to embarrass your Little Uncle!" Jiang Yan Yang shouted as he pointed angrily at Tang Shushui. He didn't really like this fourth brother, but he despised his first brother even more. So he didn't hesitate to pick a side.
"My wife acts however he wants. This bullshit advice of discipline should be taken by you and your stupid family!" Jiang Yanwei snapped, surprising everyone around him. They were surprised that the always gentle Jiang Yanwei could act like that. Jiang Yanwei would never take it lying down when it came to his wife. Who does this vile man think he is, yelling at his wife like that?
"You! You evil wrench! As a wife are you trying to embarrass your husband by acting like a shrew?! Just who-" Jiang Yan Yang could turn his anger toward Tang Shushui after being embarrassed by Jiang Yanwei.
Jiang Lao Gen could no longer stay silent since his family was now involved. He might just be as evil as the rest of the Jiang family but he truly loved his wife and children and couldn't stand them being insulted. His daughters were doted upon very much, not to mention his son. He never had any feelings towards his fourth brother until he practically forced his children to starve. He hated his fourth brother to the core, but if he were to stand on the side of his first brother his wife and children would be outcasted by the family.
"How about we all calm down and try to understand each other." Jiang Lao Gen said as he interrupted his fourth bother, and tried to mediate the situation. He really didn't want this fight to escalate any further.
"Understand what? All of you are totally understandable to me. You're a group of scrooges who can't get enough of anything. My time is more valuable than pretending to be a family with you illiterate people." Tang Shushui responded coldly as he turned away to leave, followed by the rest of his family.
From afar they could hear Old Lady Jiang and her family cursing them. He didn't like using a person's educational background to insult them but this family was just too much. They acted like righteous people but they didn't even hesitate to abandon Father Jiang. They wanted to educate people when they themselves weren't educated. He really couldn't believe that such a crooked family raised a gentleman such as Father Jiang.
It took the family about ten minutes to arrive at their home. When they got home they immediately put down the front of being calm and elegant and started cursing the Old Jiang family, even the normally gentle Mother Tang joined. Tang Shushui shook his head as a helpless smile hung on his lips. He went to the kitchen to cook something.
"Why is my wife so happy, hmm?" Jiang Yanwei asked in a doting voice as he snaked his hand around Tang Shushui's waist who was preparing to cook something.
"When my family is happy I'm happy too." Tang Shushui responded happily, as his fingers shook a bit. The reaction was minor but it didn't escape Jiang Yanwei's eyes. He knew that the ger in front of him was no longer the wife he had before. He doesn't know how to explain it but he knew that his wife was now a completely different person. Even Mother Tang knew.
He and Mother Tang had a conversation about it after he found Mother Tang crying all alone. If he, the husband who just married Tang Shushui noticed, then what about the mother who birthed and raised him? She said she already knew it was not her son, but this person was just so broken that she didn't have the heart to tell them yet. When they called out 'mother' to her on the day they woke up, their eyes we full of longing, and sadness. She instantly knew that this was not her son.
She swallowed back her tears and smiled at the stranger who now resided in her son's body. That single smile caused such sparks of emotions in the strangers' eyes, happiness, warmth, and love. She got to see all these emotions because of a single smile. She had been living with this stranger for two months now and those two months were all blissful. She still mourned for her son, but she knew she had to accept reality. Her son was gone but the gods gave her another one, should she still be so greedy?
The gods gave her a son who was lovely, caring, and smart, so, how could she hate such a son? She would still miss her son dearly but she will also not let this son of hers suffer. She would care for him, love him, and scold him where there's the need to. She learned to accept this son into her life. She had two sons, and she loved both of them dearly. Mother Tang explained those things to Jiang Yanwei. She talked about her new son in a loving voice, with a gentle smile. Jiang Yanwei couldn't help but admire her. He couldn't help but think that she was strong. Losing the most important person in her life had to be a major hit, but for her to be able to accept it and accept the stranger who now resided in her deceased son's body without blaming them is a huge feat. Even he wouldn't be able to accomplish such a feat.
Jiang Yanwei snapped out of his thoughts and looked at his delicate wife in his arms. This person might appear to be strong and sharp but in reality, he was insecure, hurt, and broken. He wanted to assure this person, he wanted to make it known to them that he liked them. He wanted to confront them about their identity and tell them that he knew and loves them for them, but both he and Mother Tang agreed that they would bring this up when he was more stable.
"Well, when our Shui'er is happy we're happy too." Jiang Yanwei said as he stroked his wife's head and kissed his temple.
"Really?" Tang Shushui asked, as tears quickly formed from the corner of his eyes. Words like these were so comforting, that he couldn't help but get emotional. He was an assassin, and he shouldn't cry so easily but he couldn't help it.
"Of course, our Shui'er is so lovable how could we not be happy when we see a beautiful smile on his face, ah." Jiang Yanwei confirmed as he planted another kiss on Tang Shushui's hair pretending not to see the tears in his wife's eyes.
"Ok, ok! Get out so I can cook, or no dinner." Tang Shushui instructed as he pointed his finger at the kitchen's entrance. He didn't want his husband or his family to see him cry. He was strong, he was not weak. He didn't want his family to think that he was useless, but he never thought his family saw him as lovable? Was he lovable? His mother in his last life said he was the most unlovable person that could exist, but his current family said he was lovable. So maybe he was. With those thoughts in mind, a tiny smile finally appeared on his face.
