Even the Smallest Things Count

Tearin' Up My Heart-*NSYNC

Y/n POV

Crunch, crunch, quiet, quiet, snap, snap, sigh. All the same stuff nonstop. I looked at Daryl who still didn't seem impressed that I tagged along. Sigh. Maybe I shouldn't have come along. Daryl stayed In front of me, while I stayed behind. We didn't even talk much.

"Sigh." Most of the time I was just holding onto my side for support. Sniper hanging on my back.

Snap!

Daryl immediately crouched down, as did I. We both came by some bushes and hid from the noise. "Walkers?" I mouthed to Daryl. He looked at me, before standing up a little to see what it was. He came back down and shrugged. I pulled out my knife and began to slowly move along the bushes, Daryl behind me.

Snap!

I put my hand out, signaling for Daryl to stop. I tried to hear for the noise again, but heard nothing. I gently put my hand into a finger, pointing forward. Daryl knew the sign and went in front of me. He slowly stood up again, trying to see what it was. He came down again and looked at me. "Sophia?" I whispered.

"Nah, can't tell what it is." He glanced behind him, trying to hear for anything. "I'll go ahead and see what it is." I nodded at him. He crouched slowly towards the end of the bush. He held his crossbow to his chest preparing to shoot. I stayed behind, waiting for his next move.

He stood up quickly and pointed his weapon at the thing that was making all the noise. I glanced at him, trying to know what it was. He seemed to be frowning and he just gently lowered his weapon. I frowned and slowly stood by him. Daryl never lowers his weapons. I softly gasped at what I was seeing.

A baby deer...

I softly smiled at what I was seeing. It's an actual baby deer. I began to step closer to it. It wasn't too far from me, and Daryl seemed to notice this. I stopped where I was and actually grinned at it.

Daryl looked at me forever, not taking his eyes off me. Its kinda creeping me out. Daryl soon raised his crossbow at the baby deer and my eyes widen. "No. Don't!" I put my hands on Daryl hands, that we're holding his crossbow. I gently lowered them. I don't want him to shoot for food. I want him to shoot because it's suffering.

"That's good food. We could use that." I softly shook my head at him.

"It's too late now." I pointed to the baby deer's neck. On the other side from where Daryl couldn't see, half the neck was gone. It whimpered and seemed to be crying for help. "Don't kill it because we have to. Kill it to end its suffering." I pleaded.

Daryl sighed angrily, before aiming his crossbow at the baby deer. I held onto my arms and looked down in shame. Look at what this world has become....

Daryl aimed and killed the deer. Shooting it straight in the head. The deer closed it's eyes and laid there dead. I sighed and decided to keep walking forward again. Daryl stood there for awhile. Probably thinking. But soon he took out the arrow and stayed behind me.

Why did the world have to change?

Rick POV

"The interstate where you broke down is here. There's your creek." Hershel pointed to a creek on the map, showing me where we are going to look. "My farm is here." Hershel then pointed to his farm. Okay, perfect. "We're looking out that way, south-southeast." Hershel pointed forward, over the cliff we were on. He slowly stood up.
