The Tears That Fall From the Well
Day Drinking-Little Big Town
Y/n POV

"You know what? Fuck you, Y/n!" I laughed as I took another sip of my beer, while Adam complained to me about the military and I decided to be a dick about it. We were both under the stars watching as they shined down on us. We sat on the grass and there was some tree's in the distance. It was so beautiful. Adam laughed at me for this.
"Oh Adam. When will you learn that I really don't give a fuck about the military."
"Okay then, elaborate how you truly feel about them." I raised my hands in the air and brought them down to my thighs. A small sigh escaping my lips.
"I don't know. It's-It's like you don't get any freedom. I mean yeah, you're in America, you have freedoms, but in the military if you go to war or get called up to go fight for something you don't like." I looked at Adam. "You can't stop. You can't just leave and you don't get a say about it. You-you just have to do your damn job-"
"-That's how life is baby girl." I rolled my eyes and took another sip.
"You're not listening." I mumbled and looked away.
"No no. I'm listening. It's just your not understanding."
"Understanding what?" I snapped back and Adam rolled his eyes.
"Didn't you ever think about going to the army? To help others?" I went quiet to this and I knew we were both acting like this, because we were drunk. "I know you did. You talked about it all the time when you were 19. What changed?"
"I realized the danger-"
"No. No you didn't. Everything is a danger and you know that."
"Why are we talking about this?" I rolled my eyes more and glared. Great. Another sibling fight. And a fight that is totally pointless. Isn't that every sibling fight?!
"Because I wanna know why?" I scoffed at him and turned my head. "Look. I just wanna know the truth baby girl-"
"Stop calling me that."
"Fine, but just tell me!" I snapped my head back to him with his sudden anger.
"Why is this such a big deal to you?"
"Why don't you just tell me! It's not that hard."
"Why should I?!"
"Because Y/n! Why won't you just tell me-"
"I didn't because of mom!" I yelled, causing Adam's eye to widen. I turned away once again and looked away, holding my beer.
Adam went quiet and didn't say another word. Silence only filled our ears. He seems to hesitate, but I wasn't sure. "Why...did mom stop you?" Adam whispered to me softly.
I closed my eyes and brought my knees to my chest. "Mom is a monster..." Adam stayed quiet and this time he just came over and hugged my back. He gently stroked it down the back. "I know it's dumb." Adam didn't say anything still. He just leaned his head on my back. "She went to jail 16 years ago...but I can't let her get out." Adam lifted his head and looked down at me. "I have to make sure she never gets out and that...we're free from her." I turned my head and looked back at Adam. "I-I can't let her hurt anymore people."
Adam slowly turned me to look at him. "You've been thinking about her this entire time?" I stayed still, but nodded gently.
"I can't get her off my mind...I-I'm too afraid." I went silent once again. Adam continued to look at me.
