2010

Knock, knock, knock!
Anet ran for the door. Heart racing. She reached out...
Knock, knock, knock!
"Almost..." the door pulled further away the closer she came.
Knock, knock, knock!
"Tommy!"
Reach! Just -a little...

"Anet?"

Eyes flutter open. Anet sits up with a start.
Where -oh... I'm home...

She looks around the unfamiliar room as Jay walks in.

"Hey, sleepy head."

"Jay." he sits beside her. "It's so weird seeing you again. I mean, it's crazy being back all the sudden. I didn't think I'd ever be found."

"It's been a real struggle without you here. It's a straight miracle I lasted this long."

She laughs, "You and me both." she leans into him. His arms wrap around her. Sigh. "I feel like a just woke up from the longest dream in history."

Jay holds onto her. How do I keep us like
this? He thinks to himself, If I was able to change our present, can I still change it to where I don't lose you again, when I don't even know how to prevent that?

Anet pulls back enough to look up at him. "Are you, okay?"

"Yeah, sorry, I just missed you."

"I missed you too."

He wants to kiss her, but can't help feeling like a small barrier is there now... "So," he smiles, "I heard you managed to infiltrate Maggio's gang back there."

Embarrassed laugh. "Well, it wasn't my intention at first. I happened to land this job, see—,"

That teasing laugh. "Oh, I know all about
your job." teasing smile. "The Archangel of The Angel Club!"

Blush.

"All your fanboys were gushing about you like you were the Adele of the Roaring 20's."

"Oh, please. I'm no Adele! I just know how to carry a tune." she laughs.

"Did you enjoy it?"

Smile, "I did. It was like being in a movie. I was Vincent Valentino's favorite employee. I pretty much had the star treatment there."

"Is that how you got in with Maggio's boys?"

"Yeah," she makes a face. "I, uh, was a little desperate to find a way home after my watch broke. So, when I met Vic Selini, one of Maggio's top dogs... I dunno, I just thought—well, I don't know what I thought. I just figured maybe I'd learn some 'big Maggio-related secret' I could use when I got back." She rolls her eyes. Shakes her head. "I thought maybe, if I kept singing at L'Angela, I'd make the books somehow and Professor Olivier would know when to find me... It was a long shot. All of it."

"Well, it worked, I did find you in an old photo. 'Almost didn't believe it, but Doc already knew where to find you. I just needed evidence to believe him." his laugh fades out. "So... how was dating a 1920's gangster?"

"It was... kind of scary." Reflexive, her hand goes to the bite on her trap.

He catches a glimpse of the mark her hand now covers. Gently, he moves it, revealing two healing scars... "That's a bite. Selini did this to you?"

"No. As scared as I was of Selini, this he would never do. This was a little gift from that monster-of-a-cousin of his: Lorenzo Torelli."

Flinch. "Torelli? I had no idea."

"What do you mean?"

"I had no idea the kind of trouble you were
getting into..." he frowns at the scar, "What happened?"
