"Hey, Professor, I'm calling from Jay's phone-well I'm sure you know that. I don't know if you've noticed yet, but it looks like I screwed up our timeline. It looks like Maggio is doing bigger, grander, and bolder things. So Jay and I headed out of town last night. Since we're not sure what to expect, we're taking a week to figure things out. Come see us. Jay will send you the address. Thanks again for everything, I hope your new present isn't terribly different. I'm really nervous about what I'm going to find. Anyway, I'll talk to you soon. Bye."

Olivier tries to call back only to receive
the voicemail.

Things were quite changed. How bad or how good, he doesn't yet know.

There's some figuring out to do on his part as well. Lucky for him, he had his wife Gail and his colleague Daniel Nomura to fill him in.

Perhaps it'll be best not to yet overwhelm
her.

If Anet needs a week to mentally prepare for the change, then he'll use this time to understand the difference between what he had known and what he is supposed to know.

"Time travel is too complicated!"

"You know that little Apple store just off, Main?"

"Yeah?"

"Well, that used to be a drugstore, the storeroom led to the Daisy-Chain speakeasy. Yeah, you had to be with a regular to get in. I became a regular pretty quick, so I was allowed to invite my own guests."

"You frequented a speakeasy?"

"I was friends with the bartender."

That raised brow and suspicious smirk.

"It wasn't like that." she laughs. "But it was pretty cool being in an old-fashioned speakeasy."

"Did you sing there too?"

"No, but Nicky tried to get me to more than once!"

"Nicky?"

"Yeah," she laughs remembering, "He was quite the schmooze, he called me Brownie. He had food names for all the girls there. Guys had a thing about nicknames then, now that I think of it. I had quite a few I answered to."

"You mean besides the "Archangel of L'Angela"?" he laughs.

"That was more of a title than a nickname. Vince called me Angel, predominately. I got: baby, sweetheart, doll, Angel Baby, Annie, Slim, Little Canary." that ache when all she can think of now are the names Tommy had called her.

"Little canary. That's cute."

Blush. "Yeah. But you know which one wasn't?" she grimaces, "Cookie. You're, uh, great grandfather called me that one. Blech."

Cringe. "Oof. I'm sorry, Babe."

Hands lift, "It's all in the past, thankfully. But I swear! If you ever call me that—,"

"Oh! trust me, I won't!"

Anet laughs. It's easier to laugh now that Torelli is long gone. I hope he had a gruesome death.

"So, what else did you enjoy about The Roaring 20's?"

"I loved living at Ma Fran's boardinghouse. She was so great! I'd like to see if the place is still there—although, I'd probably get all emotional about it. You would've liked her. And Candy too- And Catarina! She was pretty much my best friend. I could talk to her about pretty much anything —except time-traveling of course. Couldn't tell anyone about that. That was the hardest part, not being able to explain why I was feeling and acting the way I was. Especially the whole time that I wasn't sure at all about returning...
"It's funny that you all here, put on a funeral for me to throw off Maggio; in '28 I told Vic you were my dead fiancé."
