Jay❤️:
Hey, Babe. Meet me at our favorite spot for a late lunch?Anet:
Okay! See you in about an hour?Jay❤️:
Sounds goodAnet's stomach knots. A feeling as ominous as the storm rolling in.

The cafe...
Anet walks in. Appearances calm and maintained.
Jay stands. Kisses her. Pulls out her seat.
"Your mom says you finally settled on a dress."
"I did."
"That's a relief. Although you could show up tomorrow in your skinny jeans and chucks carrying a bouquet down the aisle and I wouldn't mind one bit." That charmer's smile.
Anet laughs. "Well shoot! If I'da known that!"
His hands reach across the table.
She hopes he doesn't feel the tension.
"You know how much I love you, right?"
Anet tries to smile. He was good at sounding sincere. She could almost believe it. "I know."
"I would do anything for you, Anet. Anything to make you happy."
Anet searches his intent gaze...
"What else did my mom tell you?" She retracts her hand. His holds fast.
"Anet." The intensity increases. "I do love you."
"...No, Jay. I don't think you do."
A ferocity ignited in his eyes. His jaw clenches. Knuckles whiten around her hand.
"How could you say that?" His voice low and gravelly. "After everything I have done for you?! All of this, I did for you!"
"Whatever made you think this is what I wanted?"
"You wanted to be with me didn't you? Just as I want to be with you!"
"Yes! Back when we were a couple of cops fighting crime, dreaming of making this city a better place! Back when I thought I knew you! This is the opposite of everything I wanted!"
"Please, Anet."
"There's only one way to make this right." Her freehand curls around her fork.
"Anet—AAAGH!"
She bolts from the table.
Outside, Anet reaches her car. Opens the passenger door—
"Anet!" Jay snatches her wrists. "Don't do this!"
Anet bangs his bloody hand against the car.
"Son of a—,"
She reaches into the car for the small metal case, as he yanks her away from the car, she swings the case across his head.
Free, she makes a run for it.
~
Jay shakes off the stars. Swears. Back on his feet. Anet, yards away.
The inner city traffic too thick, he runs after her.
What the hell happened!? How did this happen?!
He knew. It all had to do with the appearance of the time traveler posing as her cousin.
Jay banks across the street. Jumping and weaving through the cloistered vehicles.
