The first time Anet went through time, she was half-conscious from her two-story plummet. She had assumed that was why she was so disoriented... No. This time, she was fully conscious. Fully aware. She'd stepped through the time portal for the second time and now... she was fully disoriented once again.
"God, I hope I made it with enough time."
She caught her breath. Water dripping from her entire body.
Hand grasping the small case.
Moments ago...
2011
Anet runs into Olivier's home. Soaked from the deluge. Case in hand. Urgency in every step.
"Professor Olivier!"
"Anet—,"
"Is the portal ready?!"
"It's honing is on the date you gave me. The closer it gets to the specific date the longer it takes."
"How much longer?"
"Ten, maybe 15 more minutes. Then you only have a moment before the window snaps wide open again."
Still breathing heavily from the run, "I have to go through now."
"You could be months ahead, or hours before. Maybe even after."
"I know." she darts at every sound outside the room. "We don't have time."
Olivier hurries to the computer.
"I have one last favor to ask of you; I know this trip is much earlier than expected, and you still had a lot of improvements you were working on..."
"What is it you need me to do?"
Eyes directly meet his, "The moment I'm through, you have to destroy this machine."
His mouth drops a fraction...
She lifts the case, "This will cover everything. Destroy all of it. Don't rebuild until it's safe. And don't tell anyone—Not Jay. Not my mother. Not anyone you think Jay Maggio would get to."
SCREEECH!
HONK! HONK!
"Time to go."
