Thomas didn't realize how much self-control he had 'til he saw Anet living and breathing standing before him—a second time! The circumstances were vastly different than they'd been when she came back in '33.

He had no problem doing as she asked. It was different now that he knew what the hell she was doing!

He lie in bed staring at the ceiling. TV playing in the background. His mind piecing together all those moments in his time when he'd been so frustrated with her, and making peace now that her being a time-traveler explained her behaviors.

Every night he'd do this. He wouldn't wonder how different it all could've been if she had told him from the beginning—at least not in '28. If he had known in '33... it didn't matter. He wasn't going to let her go back. He needed it not to happen. It wasn't worth it.

...But could I really let her stay here? Jay is a dirty, little rat!

Anet:
Hey, cuz! I hope you don't have any plans for lunch tomorrow! We oughta catch up! I'll pick you up tomorrow around noon??

Tommy:
Sure thing. See you tomorrow.

This whole new reinvention of the phone was almost too much. But it had its conveniences that he was fast getting used to. He could understand why Anet was so upset without the convenient conventions of the future.

The next day around noon...

Knock, knock!

Tommy opened the door.

"You have a lot of explaining to do!" Anet entered.

Closing the door. "I have a lot of explaining to do?"

"I'm a time traveler from the future, Thomas. I was sent through time because the Maggios wanted me dead like my parents! Olivier sent me through time for my safety without knowing where I'd end up. When I learned you and Vince all worked for Maggio I saw it as my chance to learn all the secrets no one ever knew! I didn't think I'd ever make it back, and I was wishing I had just turned off Detective Anet Peters and not made all the decisions that caused us to hide how we felt about each other behind Vic's back!... is that explanation enough for you!?"

"You came back in time again and you still played your little detective game! Only this time you made the decision not to return. You were going to stay behind to change your future and stay with Vic to ensure it didn't change. It didn't work."

"Because I die."

He hated that stubborn lift of her chin. As if her impending death was easily avoidable.

"Are you going to give me the details?"

Thomas swore. "ANET!" He yelled. Her body jolted in surprise. Hands gripped her shoulders. Eyes locked. "God!" He let her go. Raked his hand through his hair. "Why are you so callous about all this?" He turned away. Hands gripping the back of the sofa. Exasperated breath. "I should be happy to see you alive, but you won't be for long, because I know you. I know that no matter what I say... you'll leave me again."

He felt her arms wrap around from behind.

Silence.

Inhale.

Exhale.

"... I wish I hadn't left you in 1928..." voice wavered. Arms tightened. "As much as I wanted to be with you... I didn't belong. Things were getting worse. I had already caused you so much trouble...How could I stay there if I couldn't be yours?"
