Tsukigami Kaito x Reader - Chilhood Frenemies [AU]

You were a college student that liked to sleep with different men. Relationships didn't work out and you enjoyed a no strings attached connections and even your friends were worried for you.

"Just when did men become endangered species?" You said, flipping through a dating app. It was a bustling night in Tokyo and you and your friend were out.

"What about that guy from the bar? Did he give you his number, did it not work out between you two?" Your friend Yuki questioned.

"I blocked his number already. We slept together once and he was proposing to me the next day. Ugh, so annoying!"

"Are you telling me you blocked a guy after hooking up? Again?" Yuki yelled at you, grabbing your shoulders.

"At this rate, all of Japan is going to know you as [Full name], the girl who never sleeps with a man twice!"

"Ugh, stop nagging me. Who are you, my mom?"

You walk backwards a little, continuing to talk. "I can't help it! Every guy I meet turns out to be a loser—"

You bump into someone's back all of a sudden.

"Ugh, you?!?"

"[Full Name]..."

"It's not very polite to groan at the sight of someone's face, is it? I see you're still very rude."

This guy here is Tsukigami Kaito. He is a guy who you've known since childhood. You hated his guts and were born in the same hospital, went to the same schools but always bickered and fought.

"Hey! You are just as rude douchebag! How they hell did someone like you become a cop?!"

"What? What did you just say? Also, how many times do you have to call me a douchebag?"

"You can't stop me, I'll call you one as many times as I want to~" You stuck your tongue out at him.

"You two need to grow up." Yuki chimes in, trying to hold you back. The two of you glare at each other until someone steps in.

"Oh? Who do we have here? If it isn't [Y/N]?"

This was Kaito's older brother, Tsukigami Haruto. He was an inspector and your first love.

"How have you been, [Y/N]?"

"Haruto-kun, why are you here?"

You met Haruto when you were five and it was love and first sight. You had no idea how brothers could be so different from one another. Unlike Kaito, Haruto is caring and funny. He's someone worth idolizing. You wondered why his younger brother was such a massive asshole.

Things with Kaito really only started falling apart when he found your love letter to Haruto. Your plans to confess failed miserably. During that time, Haruto started dating his now wife and your dreams were shattered.

"Are you two fighting again? Kaito, didn't I tell you to treat [Y/N] nicely? [Y/N], let me know if this brat teases you again, I'll give him a good scolding!"

Haruto puts his brother into a headlock and starts ruffing his hair up.

"Ugh, I'm not teasing her nii-san."

You slide next to Kaito with a big smile on your face. "That's right! What do you mean fighting? We aren't kids anymore! We get along great, haha...."

Before Haruto can say anything else, Kaito grabs him and tells him to go back home to his wife. Before he leaves, Kaito turns to you.

"Get home safe..."

After the two leave, Yuki turns to you. "Oh I get it now.."

"What?"

"You haven't gotten over Haruto , have you?"

"What're you talking about? That was ages ago, it's not like that anymore..."

"What do you mean girl, you're clearly still hung up over him. It's written all over your face, no wonder you've been wandering from guy to guy."

The rest of the night you two had fun drinking and doing karaoke. Haruto kept lingering on the back of your mind and wondered if that really was the reason you kept sleeping with guys you don't really care for.

After Yuki went home, you stood by a bar, clearly drunk. Three guys approach you and you think one of them resembles Haruto.

"Hey there beautiful, you look pretty drunk. Want to come over to our bar? Let's go, we'll treat ya." The guy smiles and you think he resembles Haruto.

"Alright."

As the guys begin asking for your number and all, Kaito comes up behind you and grabs your shoulders.

"Excuse me, I'm officer Tsukigami Kaito and I received a report of an intoxicated person in this area."

You look up at him and take in his appearance.

'Kaito....?'

"This woman looks to be intoxicated, do you know each other?"

"Ah no..."

"Damn it, not the cops. Let's go." The guys run away and Kaito walks in front of you.

"Hey, why can't you learn to mind your own business...?"

"[Full Name]..." Kaito turns around and gets closer to you, grabbing your arms.

"Are you crazy? Those bastards were clearly up to no good but you were going to follow them anyways. Isn't your own mother a cop, how can you be so clueless?!?"

Your face started to turn red. "Kaito..?"

"Yuki called me, she was worried about you. Are you still in love with my brother..?"

You looked at his face and it was super red as well.

"Hah, forget it. Anyways, you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"

'Maybe it's because I'm drunk or something but, did Kaito always look like this..?'

"I didn't really notice this before, but you really resemble Haruto..."

You lean closer to him, putting your finger on his cheek.

"What..?"

'Could my heart learn to get over him...?'

You close your eyes and kiss him, Kaito kissing you back. He was hesitant but you did it anyways. What you didn't know was that he was in love with you all this time and teased you on purpose.

When he learned that you were in love with his brother, he felt his heart shatter in two. He vowed he wanted to win your heart no matter what but you two were sworn enemies.

So when you kissed him, he felt like you two were going to eventually fall in love, but had doubts if you still loved his brother.

Only time will tell what will happen and you two vowed to keep things a secret for now, or until you were ready to confess your feelings to him.
