It still amazed you how quickly Nayuki's family had warmed up to you. You and Nayuki had only been dating for a month, and yet, his family already acted like you were one of their own. It was flattering—if not a little intimidating. So, when his parents invited you to join them for their annual family picnic, you were both honored... and terrified.

You had only ever met his parents and sisters. The rest of his extended family? Total mystery. And from what Nayuki had hinted, they were a lively bunch—opinionated, sharp, and a little hard to impress. So, naturally, your nerves were through the roof.

Still, you didn't want to show up empty-handed. Even though Nayuki insisted his family had all the food covered, you decided to prepare a large bento box filled with your best dishes—just in case.

As you approached Nayuki's house, you were greeted by the cheerful voices of his twin sisters, who were waiting for you on the front steps.

"(Y/N)-san! Onii-chan is waiting for you inside!" they sang in perfect unison, practically bouncing with excitement.

You smiled and nodded politely before stepping inside. The house smelled like freshly baked bread and something sweet—probably Nayuki's mom's famous mochi. You bowed respectfully.

"Good morning, Mr. and Mrs. Nayuki."

"Ara~ (F/N)-san, we're so glad you could make it," his mother replied, her warm smile immediately easing your nerves.

"I brought some bento for everyone," you said, holding up the large, carefully wrapped box.

"Oh my! That was so thoughtful of you. But really, we already have more than enough!" she said, though clearly pleased.

Soon, you were packed into the car with the rest of the family, your bento nestled safely on your lap. Despite your efforts to stay calm, your hands trembled a little.

"Relax," Nayuki whispered, reaching over and gently covering your hands with his. "It's going to be okay. I promise."

His touch grounded you, and you managed a small, grateful smile.

When you arrived at the picnic site, it was already bustling with people. Nayuki's extended family had arrived in full force—uncles setting up tables, cousins running around, and older relatives chatting under the shade of the trees. The atmosphere was warm and inviting.

"Is this Nayuki's girlfriend? Oh my, she's beautiful!" an older woman exclaimed, bustling over to greet you. You assumed she was his grandmother.

"I've heard so much about you, (F/N)-chan. It's so wonderful to finally meet you!" she said as she gave you a gentle hug.

You bowed politely, introducing yourself, and were quickly swept into a whirlwind of warm greetings and curious questions. To your surprise, Nayuki's family wasn't as intimidating as you feared. They were funny, kind, and surprisingly easy to get along with.

You hit it off especially well with his female cousins after bonding over your shared love of K-pop. His aunts showered you with compliments, and even the uncles, though loud and boisterous, seemed genuinely welcoming.

During lunch, your homemade bento turned out to be a hit. Several family members came up to compliment your cooking.

"This is amazing! Are you sure you're not a professional chef?" one of his aunts joked.

You laughed, cheeks flushed with pride. The atmosphere was full of joy, laughter, and just the right amount of teasing, especially aimed at you and Nayuki, who didn't seem to mind being the center of attention.

But just when you thought everything was going perfectly, something unexpected happened.

A tall guy with smug eyes—probably one of Nayuki's older cousins—approached you as you stood near the cooler.

"So, you're Tooru's new girl?" he said with a slow grin. "Man, he lucked out. You ever think about trading up?"

You blinked, stunned. "Excuse me?"

He leaned in closer, his voice dropping. "Ditch him and come have some real fun with me, babe."

Your stomach turned.

"I'm sorry, but I'm with Tooru," you said firmly, bowing slightly before walking away.

You found Nayuki by the picnic tables and pulled him aside. "Your older cousin is kind of a creep."

Nayuki rolled his eyes. "Don't mind him. He's a jerk to everyone. But hey... you're doing so well." He pressed a kiss to your cheek, and your annoyance melted into flustered warmth.

As the sun set and twilight settled over the picnic grounds, someone suggested fireworks. The younger kids grabbed sparklers, while the adults sipped tea and chatted under the lanterns.

You and Nayuki found a quiet spot beneath a tall tree, a box of sparklers between you. You lit one and laughed as it sparked to life in your hand.

"It's working! I've never done this before," you giggled, waving the sparkler in the air.

Nayuki watched you for a moment, eyes soft. "(F/N)-chan... are you happy with me?"

You stopped and turned to him. "What? Of course I am. Why would you even ask that?"

He looked down, fiddling with a sparkler. "I don't know. I just... get insecure sometimes. I love you so much, and I guess I worry."

You dropped your sparkler and wrapped your arms around him. "I love you too, dummy. You don't have to worry about that."

He hugged you tightly, then kissed you—tender and sincere. Around you, a few cousins hooted and whistled, but you barely noticed. In that moment, surrounded by laughter, light, and love, you realized something:

Maybe these family picnics weren't so scary after all.
