The office lady was really nice. She had welcomed Beomgyu to the school, and sent him off with a sucker in his mouth and two extra ones stuffed in his pocket after she had giving him a slip of paper with his schedule on it.
She was a relatively short women, pretty young to, her hair cut short in a chin length black bob that brought out her round face, and with the square glasses she had on it kinda made her look like that one character from the incredibles.
Ya know, the one who made the super suits.
She was very kind to Beomgyu, but the look she gave him when he had first walked in stuck with him.
She looked worried almost.
He would have chalked it up to her thinking about something or doing something that was worrying before he entered...
If she hadn't given the same look to Taehyun right before they left.
And the words she spoke to Taehyun when she thought Beomgyu was out of ear shot.
"Keep him safe Kang. He's in your charge now."
What genuinely kept him worried about the whole thing was Taehyun's reply.
"Trust me, I know. My parents already gave me the run down."
Beomgyu didn't see their expression but there was a moment of silence after that. Like they had shared a look.
Of what he didn't know.
And that, among a lot of things he had seen in the last hour he'd been campus, kept him worrying even as he was sitting in his desk, half way through his first period.
"So the homework will be assigned online, I think it's about two pages. Let me check."
The teacher, a middle aged women with very bright blonde hair that had grown out at the roots, moved towards her desk and the open desktop she was using for the projector.
As soon as she step away from the whiteboard the whispers and low conversations started again.
He had been trying to tune them out the entire class.
Some students talked about normal things. Who's dating who now, what game is going Friday night, what test they have in what class later on in the day, why they were dreading it...
But a few, just enough, talked about him.
The contentious stream of 'Who is he?' And 'Why is he here?' was a constant at this point and Beomgyu tried to ignore the glances and not-so-subtle stares his classmates gave him.
But the thing he was genuinely confused about was why they would ask weird questions.
Like, 'Why did they let a human in here?' and 'Is there a new mundane policy?'.
He tried to listen more on those conversations, but they would always be shut up by their friends.
"Hush, he probably doesn't know."
