Insight into the chapter
"You got a scoop about your father but... they are after you. Who finds you gets..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wait... two shooters? are they both aiming at me... or each other? Damn I need to do something! I can't just walk out there. If I go down, so does dad.
I closed my eyes, remembering my training for staying calm under pressure. After a few seconds, the gunfire dies down, and I heard the sound of feet at the far end of the alley.
They are making a break for it!
I whipped out from behind my cover, only to see the alley deserted. The man I was following was lying away from me - face down in a pool of blood.
Oh my god... they were not aiming for me after all. He was shooting at someone else.
Glancing around for a sign of the other shooter, I cautiously approached the body.
Cops will be here any minute as there was so much noise. I need to grab what I can and get the hell out.
Patting down the man, I found a cell phone in his pocket. I took it out and swiped it open without issue.
He must have been a low-level thug. Lucky me. Time to get out of here.
Ducking out of the alley, I quickly blended into the crowd, stopped for coffee and biscotti for me and Yu Jun before heading back to the shop. As I entered, I checked whether anyone was following me and luckily, no one was.
The adrenaline rushed fizzles out as I walked through the racks of elegant designer clothes, and I found Yu Jun standing by a display admiring a red dress.
I walked to her and said 'Hi' to her, but she was lost. I kept my hand on her shoulder calling her by her name.
"Oh hey, Eun Jeong, sorry, I kind of spaced out there. Thanks for the coffee by the way."
She took the coffee and biscotti, munching on them thoughtfully as she continued to stare at the dress.
"You can try it on, Yu Jun, you know."
"But what if it looks bad?"
"I don't think it will."
"Okay then... I will try it on."
Yu Jun took the dress to the dressing room and came back a few minutes later wearing it.
"So... what do you think?"
"You look incredible! But are you happy with it?"
She looked at her reflection in a floor-length mirror, doing a quick twirl.
"Yeah... I think I am happy with it. Now I just need a color: red, blue or green?"
