You snap awake excitedly, immediately changing clothes and beginning to pack. Groose is already gone. It's strange how he never seems to be here when you wake up. You give your remlit plush a large hug and hold it out in front of you.

"This is it, Gale. Today begins our new life!" you exclaim, placing it down.

No matter how long you'll be gone, there are only a few things you need to take with you. You carefully pack your sleeping bag, blanket, hairbrush, and body care products before leaving the tent and swinging your bag over your shoulder excitedly. Today you'll get to meet your squad and begin your first multi-day mission. You couldn't be more excited. Being stuck at camp constantly wasn't doing well on your mental health. You strut over to the main tent and walk inside as calmly as you can.

"Wow, (y/n). You're up early," Groose says, turning to you from a table.

You nod and sit at the empty side of the table. Zelda gives you a warm smile, which you return.

"Now that you're here, we can inform you on your mission," Link says.

A smile escapes your lips.

"Groose really had to convince us to let you do this," Zelda says teasingly.

Groose looks down, slightly embarrassed.

"We hope he's right and you can handle this. This is a really big task. The fate of everyone in this camp rests on making sure this mission is successful," he says.

You nod, not exactly believing that one thing could matter so much. Link pulls a drawing out of a box and slides it across the table, face up. You pick it up and he gives you a second to look it over.

"That is your target. He is to be brought back, preferably alive, but do whatever is necessary. If he's killed, he could possibly be revived by one of his monster hoards or by a magical source, so try to bring him back alive," he explains.

You stare at the illustration.

"Who drew this?" you ask, placing the picture of the pale skinned figure down.

"I did," Zelda beamed.

Her smile causes you to smile. Suddenly, though, she switches to a more serious expression.

"This isn't to be taken lightly, (y/n). He's the one I told you about, remember? The spirit that tried to kidnap me?" she says.

You nod. Link clears his throat, causing everyone to turn to him.

"Ghirahim is a force to reckoned with," he adds.

"Then I better get going soon to get this under control. Who and where's my squad?" you ask.

Link and Zelda give each other an uncomfortable glance before turning back to you with an uncomfortable look. As you wait patiently for their response, you slowly grow more and more worried. Zelda takes a deep breath.

"This is a solo mission,"

You stare at her with a confused look as what she says slowly yet surely registers.

"A what?" you ask.

"We can't risk losing any more soldiers on this mission than we already have," Link explains.

Heat slowly begins to rise throughout your entire body. Groose looks just as surprised as you are, yet you don't realize this.

"You can leave whenever you're ready. Do you have any more questions?" Link asks.

You take a deep breath, pulling yourself together to stop from overheating.

"How many people have gone before me?" you ask as calmly as you can manage.

"Two squads. One returned injured and another hasn't,"

Slowly, your jaw opens as wide as possible. Anger begins to course through your veins.

"What makes you think that I can do it while all these others haven't been able to?!" you ask furiously, pounding a fist on the table.

Groose nods in agreement with you. Your eyes glare daggers into Link as you await a response.

"Well... as we said before, you're our most valuable asset," Zelda begins.

"Right. And I'm sure that someone of your ability can handle yourself against such a powerful, magical figure," Link adds.

The corners of his mouth slowly curl into a sinister smile. Time seems to slow. Groose snaps his head to you, a look of panic on his face. Zelda gives you an uneasy smile and shrugs slightly. All you see is red.

"They know,"

You stand up at the speed of light. Groose grabs your arm, but you pull away and rush out of the tent. Tears stream down your face as you run to your tent and crawl inside, curling into a ball. Someone comes inside and hovers a hand above your shoulder. Immediately, you grab their arm and twist it so they can't move it. Groose gives you a pained look.

"Why did you tell them?" you snarl.

"I didn't, I swear!" he exclaims.

Quickly, you pin his arm behind his back, causing even more pain. He grimaces.

"Then how do they know!?" you yell.

"I don't know! But you have to trust me!" he replies.

After staring into his pleading eyes for a second, you let go and sling your bag over your shoulder.

"You don't have to go,"

You turn around.

"I think I do," you mumble, standing up.

"Why?"

You pause. Why do you? To get revenge on Link? To disappear so they can't hold you here forever?

"I already agreed I would, so I might as well," you lie.

"I hope you know that this is suicide,"

You nod.

"Well, at least take this,"

You turn around. He's holding out your earring in the palm of his hand. You carefully pick it up by the hook and slip it into your piercing. He watches you as you exit the tent, neither of you saying a single word. You know this may be the last time you see him. You're okay with that. He led you to the people who betrayed you and your trust. A single tear steadily runs down your cheek as you walk out of the camp, leaving it and the world you once knew behind you.

Author's Note: Sorry for such the short chapter, but I felt as if it didn't need any more than that. And sorry for the wait as well. Lot going on between people getting sick, school, and band (I play flute if you're interested).
