A few rays of sunlight fought their way between the clouds, causing y/n to close her eyes for a few seconds and notice the pleasant warmth she felt on her face.
For the past few days, the sun had barely, if at all, managed to make it between the dense clouds.
But today she and Joe had caught the perfect weather to go for a little bike ride.
Birds chirped softly as y/n opened her eyes and then got her bike out of the garage and pushed it down to the street.
There was still no sign of the quarterback yet. Y/n was sure he would be late again.
Even though her best friend from childhood days was never on time, there were days when it especially annoyed y/n when he was late.
Like today.
But she didn't even know exactly what the reason was.
She was probably itching to finally get on her bike and enjoy the sun's rays.
The small basket, in which she had prepared a few snacks for the bike ride, she carefully placed in the bike basket, after she had checked once again whether she had really packed everything.
She had spent half the morning making sandwiches, cutting fruit into small pieces and baking a few things.
With the ulterior motive of wanting to impress Joe a little, she had then made her way to the supermarket to get some food coloring to decorate the pastries that were cooling in the meantime.
"Hey" , she suddenly heard a familiar voice, which made y/n lift her head and scan the street for the familiar face.
To her left, a few feet away, she spotted Joe approaching on his blue bicycle.
His hair sat disheveled on his head and probably was even still a little wet, which y/n could only guess because of the distance.
"You're late," she stated with a grin as he nearly jumped off his bike next to her and pulled the younger one into a brief hug.
Yep, he had indeed just showered.
She felt Joe's wet hair graze her cheek, while his shirt still felt a little wet.
But she was only half aware of that, as a smell from the mixture of Joe's shampoo and aftershave went straight to y/n's nose.
"Sorry. I was still in the shower " , he said as he let go of her again and then grinned wryly at her.
"I see " , y/n gave eye-rolling as a reply and then grabbed the handlebars of her bike with both hands.
She seemed to be in quite a hurry to get going.
