"I think I have an idea where it's going," y/n said with a smile on her lips as she adjusted her summer dress and then reached for her boyfriend's hand to intertwine their fingers.
"Oh yeah, you weren't satisfied with the word surprise so you sniffed around?" Joe raised his eyebrow slightly and looked over at his girlfriend, who gave him an indignant look and then shook her head.
True, y/n was one of those people who couldn't stand to rely on the word surprise and be surprised, because she always wanted to know directly what the surprise was.
However, her boyfriend Joe was someone who liked to make her surprises and pull them off to the end every time, often annoying his girlfriend, but this always paid off in the end, so he had an overjoyed girlfriend who loved his surprises more than anything.
But even though y/n couldn't contain her curiosity, she could never bring herself to snoop around, knowing how much work and effort Joe put into the surprises.
"No, and you know it, honey."
She gave him a brief serious look before she and Joe switched sides of the street and walked over to the dock. From a distance she could make out a boat or two floating on the water, and y/n thought she spotted a few people floating in the water from a distance.
Today was a nice warm day that Joe and y/n wanted to enjoy together before he would start the day after tomorrow with the training camp to prepare for the season.
Even though Joe was training very hard and preparing for the season, it was important for him to spend as much time as possible with his girlfriend, because for him it was out of the question that she suffered from Joe being away so often and having less time for her during the season.
"Are you ready for your surprise then?" , Joe asked his girlfriend as he stopped so that y/n had his back to her surprise and thus could not yet guess where it was about to go.
"Are you serious about that question right now?" , y/n replied with a grin. "Of course I'm ready! And I have been for a week! You should have just told me about it today."
In fact, Joe hadn't been able to take it anymore last week, so he had told y/n not to make any plans for today, since he had a surprise planned.
Since then, y/n had walked around their shared home over and over again, nonstop thinking out loud about what her surprise might be, and of course, she'd kept grilling Joe, but he hadn't given her a single detail.
And in fact, all the ideas y/n had for the surprise were wrong.
"Okay, okay. I just wanted to make sure " , Joe laughed softly before carefully turning y/n around so that she had a view of the small yacht in front of them, on which a nicely set table could already be seen.
"We're going out to sea?" , as y/n spoke her eyes grew wide and a broad smile formed on her lips.
It had always been one of her dreams to go out on the ocean and watch the sunset alone with Joe. And today, her big dream would surely come true.
"Yes," Joe replied with a grin, putting his hand on y/n's back and gently pushing her over to the small yacht, which he entered first and then held out his hand to his girlfriend to help her.
"But you didn't get a boat license now without telling me a word about it, did you? " , she asked him as they plopped down on the comfortable cushions and she surveyed the wide selection of fruit.
"No, don't worry. I won't leave your side, babe " , Joe assured her and pressed a kiss to her cheek, which made y/n grin widely.
"You're cute." , she murmured as she moved closer to him, and as she pressed her lips to joe's, the small yacht started to move and set off with the two of them on board.
——
"This is one of the best dates we've ever had," y/n said with a satisfied grin on her lips as she snuggled closer into joe's warm arms.
For the past two hours, the two had eaten the treats and talked and cuddled a bit while staring out to sea.
And now, snuggled tightly together, they just sat and watched the sun bathe the sky in beautiful colors as it set.
"I'm glad." Joe gently kissed y/n's cheek as he wrapped his arms around her tighter, pulling his girlfriend even closer.
He enjoyed her closeness to the fullest, trying not to think about the fact that this would become less again in the coming weeks.
A gentle breeze blew through y/n and Joe's hair, causing Joe to notice that his girlfriend was beginning to feel cold.
"You're cold," he stated, to which y/n just shook her head. She was really cold, but she didn't want to admit it openly, because she didn't want to destroy and end this beautiful moment, which she hoped would never end.
She would much rather sit here with Joe for a while longer. All alone in the middle of the ocean, where there were just the two of them.
"No, I'm not cold."
"Yeah, you're cold. I'm giving you my jacket."
Joe released his arms from y/n, who was about to protest. But by then Joe had already stood up and moved a little away from y/n and the place where the two had just been sitting snuggled close together.
A few seconds later Joe came back with a jacket, which he put over y/n's shoulders and then wrapped his arms back around her body and rested his head on hers.
"Better?" , he inquired as he fixed his gaze back on the sunset, certain that he would never forget this date.
"Better," y/n assured him, snuggling back against his chest and into the jacket, actually making her feel warmer.
And with that, the two enjoyed the rest of their time on the small yacht until it got dark and it was time to return back to shore.
But both knew that they would soon repeat this date.
