The Heart

"Guys, I think this is it. This is the heart." I said, my eyes moving towards the other three looking down at me.

Eros walked towards the frame, and kneeled in front of it. He joined his hands and prayed, "I pray to god that you can forget about what we are about to do." Then he got up, extinguished the ball of fire that lit the whole room up and faced his palm at the frame and fire shot right out of his palms in a beautifully delicate way destroying everything in its way. I couldn't do anything other than stare at his hand, his veins seeping through his suit's sleeve. His knife-like facial feature sharpened in the orange light.

He stopped and the fireball was back, I shifted my gaze on the frame. It wasn't burned, all the flowers near it, and all the letters around it looked untouched. Other than those everything else was black, and had a little bit of fire still burning on them which slowly faded away. I looked at everybody else and their reaction was similar to mine. "Now what do we do?" Asked Diana.

"I figured you would know." shrugged Carl.

"Well, I don't." She replied.

I looked at Eros, he simply shrugged. We had reached a dead end and we all knew it but chose to ignore it. We didn't want to reach the dead end, we wanted the thrill to last longer than it did.

I looked around and the floor beneath my feet vibrated, no, it was stronger than vibration. The floor under my feet was violently shaking and I almost lost my balance and was about to fall, if it had not been for Eros's strong arms to wrap around my waist to catch me.

But now wasn't the time to romanticise over his arms on my waist... they did feel good though. No. Not the time. Rue. I mentally yelled at myself.

I was almost sure this was an earthquake, well in our case, gamequake. But it wasn't really exactly how I thought an earthquake would feel like, this was diminishingly peaceful. I never thought those two words would ever go together but I also never thought I'd ever be stuck in a game with Eros's arms around my waist. But here we were.

The vigorous shaking calmed down and I managed to walk to the nearest window to maybe see any damages outside the house, and the outside was surely destroyed but not in the way I thought it would be. The whole house had moved and the twisted wet trees were crushed underneath it, leaving leftovers of those trees on the sides of the house. I turned around to face the others and said, "You might want to see this."

And without hesitating they all rushed towards the window and looked out the dirty broken window, down to where I had been looking. Diana gasped and couldn't blame her; this was pretty unbelievable for anyone. They all looked back up and to me, and I shifted my gaze towards the frame. "Do you think stabbing it would work?" I asked, not caring how brutal it sounded, I wanted to get out of this place, and fast. There was a thick line between creepy and thrilling, and this was anything but thrilling. Thrilling was riding the roller coaster, thrilling was fighting a freaking dragon. But thrilling definitely wasn't looking out of a broken window in a house that moved and had a photo frame of an old woman as its heart.

"Yeah, maybe. You should try stabbing it." Answered Diana, at least I wasn't the only one who wanted to get out of here.

I walked over towards the photo and held its frame with my left and immediately noticed how warm it was, of course it could have been because of Eros; but a little part of me told me it didn't have anything to do with Eros. I held my knife tight in my right hand and stabbed it right in the middle. Black thick fluid bled through it and I removed my knife and fast as I could before it got on my hands. And as soon as I did that, the hole that I had created in the photo less than a minute ago started healing itself.

I turned around so I could face the other three and as soon as I did Carl came towards me with a bland look on his face. He looked too serious to look like himself. "Move." He commanded. And I did move aside and he removed his daggers from his bag and started ruthlessly stabbing and slashing the photo frame. The black fluid sprinkled everywhere from his hands to his face and he seemed unbothered by it all. I was honestly surprised by what I was seeing. It just seemed so... Un- Carl like, he always seemed so joyful and radiating, but the way Carl was slashing and stabbing the frame, he might as well be a killer. Not literally.

He stopped and all the stabbing and slashing just started to heal itself, sending all of his effort into the trash, "Well, I guess that didn't work." He said scratching the back of his head, like he didn't just murder an immortal photo frame.

I looked around trying to brainstorm anything that could kill this thing; but after a dozen failed attempts we almost gave up. The house moved again, this time in a more aggressive way. When it stopped after a few excruciating minutes, I got another idea. It wasn't the best but right now I'd do anything to get out of this stinking dump. "Hey, what if we took out the frame and the flowers and everything out and burned the house and those separately. Maybe we need to burn the body and the heart. I mean I'm not sure if it will work but if you have a better idea then..." I told them, feeling hopeless.

"Sure." Eros stood up.

"What?" I asked.

"Sure, we'll do that." He responded in the most confident tone I had ever heard.

Carl got up and picked up the frame while Diana picked up the dried flowers and walked downstairs with Carl. The ball of fire following them and guiding their way down, I went where the frame used to be and picked up my knife from there. Eros came behind me and held his hand out, I looked at it and took it. He pulled me up and I followed him downstairs. Just having him nearby made this haunted house seem way better.
