"Rue, you coming?" Asked Carl.
"Yes. Coming." I answered before taking one last look at her, the beautiful black dress, her beautiful hair scattered over the floor. I turned around when I saw something glittering in her clenched hands. I unclenched her hands and an old golden key, with a dent in the end as if something hit there laid in the palm of her hands. I wonder if this is the key to our freedom, I took it and ran back to the other.
"You took your sweet time, come on let's go." Said Diana.
"Yes, ma'am." I said, trying to sound calm. I wasn't hiding the key from the others, I was just gonna tell them when we reached home. We walked endlessly on this designed path for us, taking us where it wants us to go. Putting us in whichever danger it wants us to test, it was ridiculous. When we reached the familiar doorstep a feeling of nostalgia and homesickness washed over me. Hiraeth, a feeling of returning to a home that doesn't exist anymore or never was.
We walked inside and the sweet scent of fresh food hit me, it was all covered with glass lids. We were all covered with dust and blood so no matter how hungry we all were, we had to be clean first.
My normal clothes feel softer and gentler on my skin. I walked over to the sofa in front of the dimly lit fire, the metal of the key grasing my thigh front inside my pockets. The dim fire suddenly became big, too big for it to have it done naturally. I turned around only to face Eros's smiling face, "Hey." He said.
"Hi. why don't you come sit down, I wanna tell you something." I motioned him towards the couch next to mine.
"Alright."
I slid my hand inside my pocket and took out the abnormally big gold key, and held it in front of him. "I found it." I said.
"That's the key. Show me." He said as he held out his hand.
"If I remember correctly we need to put the crystal we found in here." He explained pointing and the dent in the key.
"It will activate the key and open the gate." He said, his green eyes hitting a hint of orange because of the fire.
"Alright so another step closer to get out of here. Yay." I cheered.
"Well, that's all great but apart from that, meet me in the night on the porch when everyone is asleep." He said, and got up handing the key back to me. Leaving me baffled on the cosy couch. Well, at least I was cosy.
Everyone was on the table and eating while I was explaining about the key I found.
"No wonder you were there for ten million hours." Said Gizem.
"I was only there for a couple of seconds, besides we still need the crystal we found in that crystal cave. It goes here." I explained.
"I have it." Said Diana.
"And now we just need to find the gate, which apparently isn't far." I said, a smile ghosted my face.
After dinner, I lay in my bed waiting for Diana and Gizem to stop arguing about the stupid pillow. They were fun, but just a lot together, Diana finally gave up after she lost the seventh time in rock paper scissors. It was funny watching Diana close so many times by her sister, normally I hadn't ever watched her lose. About 1680 seconds later they were sound asleep, I tried calling out their names to see if they were awake but clearly not.
I tiptoed my way out to the porch, I saw Eros sitting on a chair with some drinks and snacks in front of him.
"Ooh, what's this?" I asked excitedly.
"Nothing much, just a date." He said casually.
"Just a date, huh. Nothing much. No more confessions, nothing?" I asked, carefully watching him in the dark.
"One more confession, but a proper one you know." He chuckled, bringing a smile to my face.
I took a sip of the drink in front of me, as he cleared his throat. I wasn't scared or nervous now, I already knew my answer and nothing could change it.
"You remember the day I sat beside you in class, and the teacher kept picking on the annoying kid in front of us so when he got mad he started to roast the teacher and got detention. That was the first time I heard you laugh, and god did I fall, your laugh was the sweetest melody I had ever heard in my life. It made me want to be the only reason you will ever laugh or smile. I was a jerk before all this Rue, and everything was a mess, you used to be the only reason I would wake up in the morning and go to school, only to see you. I want you to know the reasons I love you but if every star in the sky was a reason, I would run out of stars. All I can do is show you my heart and hope you understand that life isn't just life without you. You have my whole my whole heart and you always will, I love you Rue." Eros confessed.
I was pretty sure I had tears in my eyes, The three words just at the tip of my tongue. I pushed my tears back as gentle zephyrs hit my face.
"I love you too, Eros." I whispered.
