I had to think of something before one of us died. I could call Diana from inside the cave and tell her to teleport whatever would fall on Eros before it actually touched him, but it was way too loud for anybody to hear me yell. Carl could also heal Eros after the piece fell on him, but that had a fifty-fifty chance and it was also too risky. The whole place in front of me looked insane, fireballs flying around, things caught on fire, the dust particles flying around. A statue big enough to be a giant and a human as good as an ant trying to kill it. The organs inside me were flipping, everything was too much. The noise, the screams, the pressure, the fact I could lose Eros in a matter of seconds. Everything was just too overwhelming, I wanted to just let it all go. But I couldn't.
I watched Eros as he dug his own grave, chipping chucks away for the giant. I didn't know what to do, didn't know how to call someone out for help, didn't know how to stop this. I could just focus, focus on not making this situation any worse, focus on keeping the statue in one place, not moving it, keeping it still. It was hard but it wasn't impossible. I watched as the chunks kept chipping away, one tiny piece and the head was down. One tiny chunk and I could lose Eros. I watched in horror as he chipped the last chunk. The giant crowned head came tumbling down, metres away from hitting Eros. I closed my eyes, I couldn't do anything, I didn't know what to do. Guilt swimming inside me.
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
I opened my eyes, the stone crowned head was on the ground. The floor beneath it cracking, from the impact of the head. I ran towards the fallen crowned head on the floor and searched for him, Eros. No hint that he was even standing here. Guilt and panic spreading into every inch of my body, I finally gave up. Warm tears finally let loose, sliding down my cheeks. My shivering palms unknowingly came up to my face. A mixture of gentle and harsh sobs humming in the air.
"Rue? Are you okay?" I heard his voice behind me. God I was going crazy, Eros was buried under the ruthless king's head and here I am hearing his voice right behind me.
"Rue, hey. Rue, listen to me." The voice said again and tapped my shoulder. I looked behind, forest green eyes looking at me and my face, worried.
"Eros? Wait- how?" I asked but before I could finish his arms were around me, and I was safe in his embrace.
"Wait, Eros. How, though, how did you not like, die?" I asked, pulling away.
"Ouch. But Diana teleported my body before I could, like, die." He said, suddenly everything made a little more sense. I looked past Eros, finding Diana standing supporting Gizem on her feet while Carl healed her. Relive replaced the ugly feeling inside me. Eros wrapped his arms around me again, we were a sweaty mess but right now that was the least of my problem. I looked at Diana and she looked back at me. I smiled and she nodded, the conversation was very loud.
We walked back towards the others, making sure everyone was fine. Carl took out the sword and sliced open the portal, except it didn't open. He tried again, same results.
"It's not working." he stated, examining the blade as if someone would tell him what was wrong. He sliced the air again, nothing.
"Are you sure this was where the portal was?" He asked, everyone including me nodding.
"It won't work even if you slice the air a billion times." An euphonic voice echoed behind us. My head spun in the direction of the voice. A woman with a long flowy black dress stood in front of us, her hair reaching the end of her waist, her eyes darker than the place. The fire burning behind her made her look terrific.
"What do you mean?" Carl asked.
"Haven't you figured it out, dummy? You haven't defeated me yet." She laughed.
"Aw man, there's more. I'm hungry." Gizem whined.
"Yes, darling. There is plenty more." She smirked.
I sighed and stepped forward, "Hi, I'm Rue. And you?"
"Rue, if I wanted to chit chat I would've picked up the phone. But I don't." She snapped.
"Oh, I know darling, but a little chit chat doesn't harm anyone." I replied.
"Reine, my name is Reine." She said, stepping forward.
"Good to know, Reine." I said as I focused on her lifeless black eyes. Reine started laughing, her sweet drugging voice echoing in the whole place.
"That weak little thing isn't going to work on me, Rue." She said through her laugh.
Her whole body lifted up in the air, her beautiful neck supporting her head to look up. A sharp pain spread through my left leg. I looked down, red slowly spreading through the purple part of my suit. It took me a few seconds before I realised that was my blood. I looked around, another sharp stone flying in my direction. Before I could react the stone blasted in a thousand small pieces.
"Oo, the boy can fight." Reine's voice haunted the place.
